Now Playing at a Home Theater Near You: Sony Unveils 2003 DVD Dream System Line-up


With consumer interest in home theater-in-a-box packages booming, Sony today introduced its new DVD Dream™ system home theater solutions. The new models provide enhanced audio/video performance and new cosmetic design in one convenient system.

Sony’s new line-up of DVD Dream systems is highlighted by the DAV-FC9 model, which features a 5-disc DVD-video/CD/SACD player/receiver, four unique slim tower speakers, a low profile center channel speaker and a separate active subwoofer for a powerful, complete home theater system.
The DAV-FC9’s new adjustable-height speakers and stylish, slim receiver enable easy integration of the full-scale system into virtually any home theater set-up. Additionally, the tower speakers can be removed from the integrated stand to provide a wall mount option, perfect for use with today’s flat panel display devices. It also offers progressive scan output for crisp, clean video image reproduction with DVDs.

Whether watching a DVD or discovering the sonic benefits of Super Audio CD, consumers will enjoy the outstanding audio performance of the DAV-FC9 system. Its S-Master™ Digital Amplifier generates 650 watts of total system power through five speakers and an active subwoofer. The new system also offers MP3file playback functionality so music lovers can listen to hours of their favorite music on a convenient home entertainment system.

After just minutes of set-up time, users can enjoy the DAV-FC9 from the comfort of their easy chairs with the intuitive, easy to operate Remote Commander® remote control. For those wishing to show off their latest digital images, the model also incorporates JPEG file playback.

The Dream Family

The DAV-FC9 is scheduled to ship in September for about $1,000. It is accompanied by three other models, including:

DAV-FC8: This 5-disc DVD/CD/SACD player/receiver incorporates many of the features of the flagship DAV-FC9, including 600 watts of total system power to allow for excellent audio and video reproduction through two tower front speakers and easy to place mini satellite rear speakers. The unit’s new slim design speakers and chassis design make it a stylish home theater solution for any apartment or family room setting. The DAV-FC8 will be available in August for about $800.

DAV-FC7: This 5-disc DVD/CD/SACD player/receiver features progressive scan output and like the DSV-FC8, offers 600 watts of total system power for rich sound and picture performance. The unit’s four small satellite speakers are suitable for any environment. The DAV-FC7 will be available in August for about $600.
