Microsoft’s Xbox 360 sold at record numbers over the Black Friday weekend, outselling the PlayStation 3 by a 3-to-1 ratio.
It’s estimated that the Xbox 360 had a 25 percent increase from Black Friday sales in 2007.
Microsoft dropped the price of the Xbox in September, and that had to have played a role in the console dominating video game sales last weekend.
“We entered into the Black Friday sales period with cautious optimism, knowing that dollar for dollar, Xbox 360 offers more social entertainment value than any other console on the market,” says Don Mattrick, senior vice president of Microsoft’s interactive entertainment business.
“Record Black Friday sales in the U.S., coupled with our existing global install base of 25 million and an online community of more than 14 million Xbox LIVE members, have laid the groundwork for continued global sales momentum in 2009.”
Microsoft also says Xbox 360 sales are up as much as 400 percent in Europe since the price drop.
