Quick general question about these small consumer HardDrive cameras...

ok. Hypothetical question. If I had one of these cameras, and the harddrive was broken, would it still record video if connected to a DVR?

Welcome to Agoraquest!  Possibly.  My HDR-SR12 Handycam includes HDMI, component video and composite outputs that may be connected directly to a TV or other device.  The question is, would those outputs be active if the hard-drive were bad.  I suspect so, because they are undoubtedly provided by hardware that shouldn't rely on the hard-drive.
