i cant get the player to change discs when i press the button on the remote, can someone let me know what kind of moronic thing i am doing wrong. the discs do change if i press the button on the front of the unit.

Haven't heard of this problem, and no idea why... Are the other buttons on the remote working?
Does this button have other functions? And is this just a "Disc Skip" button that advances one disc, or is it the number pad that let you go to "1", "2", "3", "4", or "5"? Or is it a pair of "+"/"-"?
i had to program my remote from the dvd remote to switch discs
I have an older dvp-650 and i use a da3-es remote
the disc skip would never work for me, so i use the numeric pad
