This my first home theater and im sure that i have my speakers placed right, i think i might need to rotate my front speakers 45 degrees but im not sure. I have my rear speakers set on "Side" and "Low". Heres a picture http://hergs.com/mysetup.jpg I have a very rectangular living room and moving the tv isnt an option

onepairofpant- The diagram looks fine to me. Surrounds should be set to "low" and "side" being 40" tall. As far as your fronts, you could try toeing them in a little and see how they sound or if you notice a difference. Let your ears be the judge. With this being your first HT system you have a great start. Enjoy!

i turned the speakers in 45 degrees to the middle couch as dobly digital labs reccomends, and whats funny is that my rear speakers are 1.5 meters closer to me than my front speakers, which they also recommend and i already had setup. my setup (front speakers = 12 ft, center speaker = 10 feet, rear speakers = 7 feet)

Hi to all:
Here is what I think if you hear music and also like movies you should give a toe in (move front speakers to the lisening position) this is very personal setup this movement give you more wide soundstage to your music and better dialoge to movies. there is not a default but you should try it.and if this speakers can hold more that 80Hz put it at large speakers.
For the surrounds if you can put more to the back is better it give you more back surround with out a back speaker and you can test this with the Sound and Vision tune up it has a THX demo that you can here a back speaker with out having a back speaker.
Did you have carpet or area carpet? If you have it good if not you can put one area carpet it help you belive me .
For the center try to put it looking to you, let me explaine you can put a door stoper in the back of the center to give angle to the center and this help you a lot. Because some times
the TV is big so big that went you put the center in the top the wave are going away fron the lisening position.
I hope this can help you and remenber you dont need to do everything this setup is very personal but you can try it you are going to find a swet spot belive me.
Thank you
Here is my HT

He's saying that you could put a door stop under your center speaker to tip it forward so that it is more easily heard from the listening position.

Whoa onepairofpant, calm down. By your admission this is your first HT setup and you asked for peoples advice. Perhaps if you spend some time reading the forum you will find that there are countless "tweaks and tips" that will improve the sound of your system. That is what was being offered to you. You do NOT have to agree, accept or even try the suggestions. You do however have to behave like a gentleman if you expect other forum members help or suggestions.

Over the years I have found that the number of degrees off axis that you listen to a speaker will gave a great effect on how the speaker sounds from the listening position.

I couldn't agree more. When I toed-in my left front speaker 22 degree's it made a huge correction in the soundfield due to the configuration of my room.

May I also respectfully suggest a consideration of the listening environment; That is a "hard" or "soft" room.
E.g., carpet and drapes room vs. hardwood floors and bare walls room...
It all depends...
