I've got my KV-34 hooked up to my Comcast Digital cable. There doesn't seem to be a consistent display format between the various HD channels (ABC, CBS, NBC, ESPN, PBS). Some show up in full mode, some in normal mode and some in wide mode (distorted image). Isn't there a standard way that all of these stations should be formatting their HD signal?

ABC, CBS, NBC, and ESPN don't broadcast 16:9 material all of the time. Most of the time, it's 4:3 standard defintion material upconverted to 720p (ABC and ESPN) or 1080i (CBS,NBC). But since HD broadcast is 16:9 by defintion, something has to be done, and this depends on the local affiliate (or ESPN). Some put bars on the side, some zoom in a little, and some stretch it (like ESPN).
We're living in a transitional period, so you're going to have all these various "formats" until everything is HD.
The national PBS HD broadcast is widescreen all the time, though not all programs at HD. Some of them are just widescreen 16:9.
