New 40XBR800 arrived Friday!
My problem is that while watching ABCHD or NBCHD, the 16:9 format has black lines on the right and left. I expected the black lines above and below given 16:9 instead of 4:3, but not on the rt. and lft. It's almost like a 4:3 picture...There are 2" lines on the sides in addition to the ones on top! Is this normal or is a setting screwed up?
I thought I had read a post about it in here or avs, but I cannot find it...PLEASE Help! Thanks in advance...
Other items of interest...Got the 40XBR800 from the Group Buy...ABT and Bekins did a great job.
Delivery: Took about 10 days from day of delivery to arrival. Picked the free stand up from Bekins Delivery Warehouse up three days before they delivered the beast. Had the stand assembled prior to their arrival. No dings and great service.
Picture: Hardly any tweaking needed. Not sure I'll neee a professional calibration. Off-Air Ant. (installed in AUX) looks pretty good. DRC rocks! Dishplayer looks great (contrary to other posts). Very disappointed in Digital Cable!!! Frankly and suprisingly, Satellite looks MUCH better. Progressive DVD (Sony DVP-NS715P) is awesome! HDTV is incredible, except for the problem posted above! If my picture is going to be that small, who cares about the great picture. I'd rather watch a mediocre one in 40"....Also, because I only have basic HDTV programming, I only get 2 channels in HD - ABC and NBC....VHS, as anticipated, fairly lousy and grainy. Very similar to most of the digital cable channels. Although some come in better than others (Cox Cable, Fairfax, VA).
Settings: Basically, the best picture for all viewing (except HD and Progressive DVD) is Pro with the brightness up to 60%.
Configuration:
Sony 40XBR800
Cox Digital Cable w/HDTV (Scientific Atlanta 3200HD)
DishNetwork (DishPlayer w/PVR (JVC 7200)
Off-Air VHS/VHF Chimney Ant.
Future: New Off-Air Ant. w/HDTV capabilities
Quetions:
1) Help solve my HDTV Horizontal grey/black problem mentioned above (if it is a problem)?
2) HDTV Tuner (any recommendations?) for off-air antenna?
3) Calibration expert in the DC/Northern VA. area?

Correction...The bars are vertical ones...I.E.
They are on the left and right (along with the top and bottom "normal" 16:9)

I know with my SA box I have to manually switch between 1080i and 480p when going from the HD channels and The regular 4:3 channels. If the HD channel is not set to 1080i it will have vertical bars and look like a great 4:3 picture.
Use the settings button on the remote to change back and forth.
