Trinitron technology distinguished Sony from all the other brands back then. What's the difference between the Sony brand now when most flat panels are being manufactured by a few companies. Does the brand XBR still carry the same weight like in the past ? Click here for here some Sony history.

I had a Trinitron decades ago and they were indeed great. A little more expensive than others but unquestionably they were considered "it" when it came to CRTs. It'll be interesting to see if in this day and age they'll be another "it" in TVs. I say that considering the rapid advancements in TV tech along with their planned and designed short life spans._mykl

Some Sony-trivia: the 16" and 20" picture tubes as used in KV-16WT1 / KV-16WS1x and KV-20WS1x TV's were no Trinitron-tubes, however this was indicated on the cabinet.
The used gun was made by Philips and did have separate G2- and focus electrodes for each red, green and blue guns; while the Trinitron-principle is based on having just 1 electrode for all three colors together.
