A recent PM that I received from a forum member has prompted me to make my position perfectly clear to the forum and to irradicate any misconceptions about them. That's since (unlike the sender of the PM seems to believe of himself) most of you do not believe you're psychic mind readers and know the thoughts of someone else particuarly mine. The insulting PM that was patently wrong in it's knowledge of what my thoughts and motives are with regard to my posting the emails from Paul McGowen of PS audio that I receive daily and the majority of the time forward to Agoraquest and my "association" with McGowen because of that. (Words in quotations are exact quotes from the PM). Since this member stated that I'm an "ardent sponsor" of McGowen I felt I should explain myself in case any one else is confused about my positon.
I post the emails because I feel some of the readers here may find them entertaining and even informative and may prompt some discussion and thought. That's it, pure and simple. I do not do it to "heavily sponsor" Paul McGowen. Heck he doesn't need me for that anyway. He does a more than better job of it himself. I have no vested interest in him or his company and do not vouche or take responsibilty for him or his thoughts/statements in any way. I'm not out to advertise or promote him or his products nor do I make any promises or pledges on his behalf. And I certainly do not do any of those things with passion or enthusiasm. So much for being his "ardent sponsor".
The truth is I at least as much if not more often than not disagree with much of what he says. If you read some of my comments about his posts you'll see that I've said that I think he's often wishy-washy and contradictory in his statements. I've even said IMO he's a hypocrite at times. He's ventured ideas on why interest in high-end audio is waning and how to fix it. He has called out designers, engineers and audio makers to implement these fixes citing a lack of innovation and catering to the rich with pricing out of the reach of most. I said I find him a hypocrite because I feel that his company is one of the culprits in this itself. Yet I was told that I'm "spreading" his philosophy. When he claimed that he had found some better than sliced bread amp tech I was skeptical at best. After he revealed it I openly accused him of IMO running a long con on his readers. My postion has not changed and it'll take alot more than his word and his sophisticated hearing to convince me. I don't care about his claim that his hearing is so refined that he can tell the difference in sound of car starters and readily identify the brand. I guarantee you he'll have to prove the superior SQ of this amp tech to me. Yes I do at times agree with him and I say so. I feel that's only fair and just. When I disgree I point that out too. If he's right he's right. If he's wrong he's wrong and IMO there's alot he's wrong about. So much for my "continued support of his philosophy". I know I wouldn't want my "chief sponsor" which I was told I'm his, to say that in his opinion I'm a self serving, contradictory, hypocrite that's guilty of running a long con on his readers. If anyone after reading this still thinks of me as Paul McGowen's "chief sponsor" I don't know how much more clear I can be on my position.
Now to the really important part. I post his emails because I think someone might be interested. If noone's interested I'll stop. Like I said I have no vested interest in McGowen and if noone's interested I can save myself the effort. But If you are, then please let me know here and I'll continue. What's more, if you are then please, please post your thoughts and views and let's have some discussion about it. A real discussion; an informal debate and exchange of ideas. If you disagree with something in my posts by all means express yourself. Who knows maybe everyone will learn something from it and at least have something to think about.
AFA other threads go, I was told that "the association of your (he was refering to my name) name with Paul McGowen is so strong and so well established that it taints the purity of the discussion". As I've said my only association with McGowen is posting his emails for the readers here. If anyone else feels that I'm some type of disease or some sort of vermin that my posting to a thread where someone's views may differ from McGowen's whether I agree with him or not would "taint the purity of the discussion" please let me know and I won't soil your thread. I don't want to be responsible for anyone else "having lost much sleep" over my posting to their threads. If you feel that "because of the now inextricable tie and direct association that has been established between your(again my) name and that of Paul McGowen" makes my posts unworthy of your thread, then definitely please let me know. I don't want to be the cause of anyone else "having literally woken up from nightmares" because I've posted McGowen's emails and then posted to your thread. But let me reitterate my only association with him is posting his emails and that I'm a frequent and stern detractor. Maybe that's the association he was refering to. I doubt it though. I don't know as I'm not a mind reader.
Yet I do have a suggestion to anyone that doesn't wish any posts that might be contradictory to theirs placed on their threads or posts from some one who doesn't feel exactly the same as them that they place a disclaimer at the beginning of the thread that reads, ONLY SYCOPHANTS NEED POST. ALL OTHERS ARE UNWANTED AND WILL BE REJECTED. IMO it will save alot of misunderstandings. I ASSURE you NO such disclaimer will be on any of my threads and ALL opinions, thoughts, ideas, suggestions, info etc. are most welcome. Lets have discussions that aretruly pure because everyone is welcome to share and be represented.
I decided to place this clarification in open forum so all readers would know where I actually stand, I don't want there to be any confusion if I can avoid it. And so that forum member who thinks he knows my thoughts can read it here in case he ever forgets or becomes confused about in the future as he has in the past and seems to have now. This way he need never to hurl insults and lies my way again.
My many and sincerest thanks for taking the time to read this, Best Regards_mykl

I posted the original post that I made here to another thread as I felt that was more appropriate. I would've just deleted the post entirely but for some reason that option wasn't available._mykl

The option to delete a post is only available immediately after you make the post. Just select Edit and the option will be available. I must say that I enjoy reading your posts from Paul McGowen. Originally, I too wondered why you were making the posts. Then, I concluded that it must be because you believe that others will find them interesting. However, I can see how someone might conclude that you are in cahoots with Paul McGowen.
John_Thanks. I appreciate the info and support. In my defense though, if anyone really feels I am in cohoots with McGowen all they need do is read my better amp possibly thread. IMO it would very hard come to that conclusion after that._mykl

Thank you for your input an dletting me know of your approval of my posting them. I will continue to do so. Hopefully McGowan will have some thing to say that'll be of interest to you._mykl

Hey Mykyl,
I enjoy reading your Paul McGowan posts even when I don't agree with all of it. I think the man is very knowledgeable and I usually learn something which is what our hobby is all about. To question you being affiliated with him is funny to me. Obviously who ever accused you of this doesn't know you. Just "keep on keeping on" my friend.
jttar_Thanks Joe, I will. You well know the last thing McGowan would want is me for his "chief sponsor".
I don't agree with alot of what he says but it's a point of view and hopefully food for thought and actual discussion. I don't post all of his emails because sometimes I feel they're simply him being self-serving and have nothing to do with audio/video at all. As such I feel they're pointless to post here. If he wants to simply be self-serving he's got his website for that. Sure doesn't need me and I don't want to be any part of that. As you know it's not like he and I are friends. But if he has something to say about audio/video I'll post it even if it doesn't agree with my point of view just as I have been. Someone may find it interesting and maybe it'll spark some conversation and real discussion too. Not just obsequious agreement. Which IMO would be a very good thing. _mykl
