I have a KDL-40EX400 LCD TV that wouldn't power on when we turned it on this morning.  Powered on and it turned off immediately.  Then it powers itself on and off twice.  Followed by 6 blinks of the red power LED continuously.  It's out of warranty.  Is it worth taking it apart?  Will I be able to tell if something is wrong just by visual inspection of the control boards?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Welcome to Agoraquest!  For the KDL40EX400, 6 blinks, pause, 6 blinks, etc. means "Backlight Error" and the possible problem locations listed are as follows:

    1.  LCD Panel
    2.  Balancer Board (ETC-Inverter MT Board)

These are stating points for a qualified service technician.

Nothing beats a thorough visual inspection.  In fact, there is a fuse on the TCON board attached to the LCD panel that could be the problem.  If the fuse isn't bad, you could try replacing Item 2.  However, there would be no guarantee that it would work.  If you decide to go this route, please provide the serial number off the set's nameplate so that I can look up the part needed.

It is highly recommended that you go to http://www.agoraquest.com/manual_request.php to see if the KDL40EX400 service manual is available and obtain it if so.
