    Hello,
I just rec'd one of the new KDL-40EX640 TVs with LED backlighting.  Actually it was an extended warranty replacement for a KDL-40Z4100 which had been having display problems that I described in another thread in this forum.

The KDL-40Ex640 is had display problems right out of the box.  One problem concerns the backlighting.  In dark scenes, the corners are illuminated by white light, as though flashlights were being shined from the corners to the center of the display.  The light extends about 1/3 of the way from each corner to the center.

I've been fiddling with the backlighting and other picture adjustments for the last week and have not been able to make those artifacts go away.  At best I can reduce their intensity only slightly.

The other problem concerns viewing angle.  At a viewing distance of about 10 feet, if you move sideways of only a foot or two, the hue becomes dominated by blues and magentas.  Playing with the color, hue, and picture adjustments doesn't seem to have an effect on this.

I've seen two other complaints in different forums that describe the same problem with the backlighting.

Has anyone else had any experience with this model yet, or with any other LED-backlit set that has uneven illumination like this?  Is it a basic problem with the technology, or a fault specific to this particular set?

    Thanks for your time,
