    Hi
I’ve got a Sony STR-DA 7100ES – I love it to bits and it’s the centre of my AV system.  But there are a few niggles on it’s HDMI connections. Fundamentally it works well as it passes 1080/24p with deep colour from my BDP-S5000ES Blu Ray player – so it’s staying until it dies.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
However recently these HDMI limitations seem to crop up more and more  e.g. connecting an iPhone and the new Sony Laptop.  These new components don’t seem to be able to be configured to ‘force 1080p’.  Hence I’m interested in getting hold of the Service Manual.  I seem to remember some years ago Claudio had this electronically or maybe I was I mistaken? But I'm not sure how to contact him as the email link doesn't work<o></o>
If anyone has this or can let me know how to get it I’d be grateful.<o></o>
    <o> </o>
    Best Regards Peter<o></o>

The STR-DA7100ES service manual that we have does not cover the CEL model.  If you are expecting the STR-DA7100ES to up convert HDMI inputs, forget it.  It only passes through HDMI inputs (receives and re-transmits).

If only it did. It's the limitation of the pass through that is the problem.
My problem is unless I can force a component to pass out 1080p. The recievers EDID is still 1080i, and as Apple Kit only outputs p variants I either get 1080i [with my new Sony VIO Laptop] or 720p [on the iPhone 4S] on the newer stuff.
Hence my interest in finding out how it really works. So maybe it can be modified to show a native 1080p signature.
Plus also interested if this can be done to find out the boards to upgrade the HDMI so I can go and get another spare 7100ES as I love this amp.

I you plan on pursuing a modification, you will have to get familiar with the HDMI chip set used and how it is programmed.  The only program storage device in the circuit is an SD-RAM connected to the progressive scan converter.  The US version of the service manual would be sufficient to see what chips are used.  You can start your research from there.  Go to http://www.agoraquest.com/manual_request.php to order the service manual from Agoraquest.

    Thanks Jehill
We have a pretty good service shop, that is also the nearest sony repair centre. Do you think if I did the research it is something they could re-program.  Would it be simple like deleting 1080i and replacing it with 1080p?
    Any ideas

I doubt that it is anything that simple.
