hi eveyone ive just joined so tought id write something i know some messages are quite old but that dont matter ive been reading alot of the articles about the sony dolby s decks i have a sony TC-K611S the motor has just broken on it but i have a newer model sony a WE475 not dolby S but its a newer deck though, i picked up a denon 650S with dolby S and i thought it knocked spots of my sony deck hifi world gave it a good rating as you can go on there website and look at older buying guide.
Read a couple of articles on here about vinyl all i can say is it, is the best sound quality if there is crackles and pops on records thats static deposits and antistatic sleeves are needed for all records as not not provided with them when bought i think they should be though.
Then there will be no crackles on them.
The best decks made were nakamichi they didnt make dolby s as they didnt need to as there were that good but second hand they fetch high prices still today.
I wouldnt mind hering a higher end sony deck though it was sony who invented cassette in the first place alot of people use cassettes still but they dont sound better than cds though.
I liked the pictures of the sony gold coloured cassette deck on here looked mint very nice indeed.
Thank you.

I had a few Sony ES cassette deck which featured Dolby S; however, I could not distinguish tapes produced/played using S from tapes recorded using Dolby B. Also, my automobile cassette players only featured Dolby B. And, since I made play-lists from vinyl and later from CD's on my home decks to listen to while on the road, I perceived producing tapes using Dolby B would be more appropriate; therefore, I never capitalized on Dolby S. My Sony TC-K950ES, which I still use today to enjoy my play-lists while cruising in my 20000 Camaro SS, has both Dolby B and C; but, I still prefer the effect of Dolby B. BTW, my TC-K950ES is not for sale. Next to my Sony PCM-7010F DAT recorders the TC-K950ES is my favorite Sony audio recorder for a multitude of reasons. It produces and plays cassettes sounding to me as good as vinyl and CD's.

i wouldnt say cassette sound can be made as good as cds and definteley not vinly if you recorded using dolby-s the sound would still be as good in your car played back using the dolby-b or c you can record and use it on a deck without dolby if doing cassettes for the car make sure you use type 1 normal tapes not unless you got a deck in there as good as a cassette deck as metal tapes will get metal on the heads and ruin them unless you demagnatize them i prefer chrome as you can have the input nturned up very high when recording which is mint you can buy ten TDKs of ebay for next to nothing.Im looking to get another deck but want something better the higher end sonys do look alot better the sony TCK611S was one of the first dolby-s sonys.
Proffessor dolby invented the dolby system that was his name.thank you and happy taping.

It seems most blank cassettes sold today are too thin to be compatible with my Sony TC-K950ES. I like the old Maxell UD-XL tapes. In addition, my Sony deck can be calibrated for those tapes, whereby, the sound is to me indistinguishable from vinyl or CD, whether listening in my car, or surprisingly, in my HT. Nevertheless, I don't have much need for cassette today, or for that matter DAT, yet, I still use these devices on occasions where they are more convenient or appropriate than my CD recorder or burner. For example, I use my PCM-7010F's these days for convenient recording of Internet programing, as well as to edit nature recordings (thundershowers) I recorded in the field on my Sony TCD-D8 with SBM-1.

Yes, the TC-K950ES is awesome. I've been told it is Sony's best. I don't know about that. After all, I've not listened to all of them to know what was their best. But, I've kept it all these years because it does indeed satisfy me and I perceive there's nothing out there that could please me more. Thanks for the tape tip. BTW, picture below is example of a Sony PCM-7010. I've got two of em with an edit controller. That's what takes care of most of my recording needs today.

MY local dealer told me the sony metal used is too heavy for my deck but metals are harder to get hold of ebay got them i think they would probably be ok for your deck but if you can get hold of TDK-MAX but you will pay twelve pounds for one cassette they can bee bought on ebay from america supposed to be mint the chromes i use are good and the TDK MA good aswell but if you want about 10 cassettes for next to nothing buy the chromes how heavy is your deck looks very big bet its good though thank you.
