Ah yes, the SCD-1 the first SACD player. I've always loved it's outstanding build quality. It's 2ch only and far from a universal player though. Despite it's $5k MSRP the SCD-1 sold pretty well it seems. There's almost always a few available for purchase on Audiogon._mykl
There are actually 2 of them on Ebay.. I know its not a universal player, but was along the lines of our conversation. It will be interesting to see what it goes for. It appears they have become "collectible" in such a short time.

The SCD-1 sells for $1400 ~ $1700 on Audiogon depending on its condition. Anything <$1000 would be pretty good. Hopefully, there are still plenty of spare lasers in stock.

Excellent points!! In the right hands doing some modern upgrades, such as caps, wiring, etc., the SCD-1 can compete with just about anything out there regardless of price. And then there's it's superb build. It weighs in at 50+lbs. Look at what you'd have to spend to get something on par. If they are available, IMO, it would serve someone who owns one well to pick up a few spare lasers. _mykl

My Pioneer ELITE 59AVi sent via i.Link to a Pioneer ELITE 55TXi is something special. Nearly comparable to the 9100ES/7100ES combo. The digital amps in the 7100ES puts it over the top. This set-up will play everything except Blu-Ray.
Its been difficult for me to let go of this set-up for something like the Oppo BDP-83 in which I would have to send audio via the 7.1 analog outputs to a receiver like a DA5ES. I doubt there will be much of an increase in sound or video quality over my current set-up. I'll just be able to play Blu-ray.
Scott_I'm not familiar with your Pio units but the Oppos have a USB 2.0 port. Given the direction we're looking to take our systems, what do you think of the Oppo also serving as an asynch USB DAC? If they'll work that way what do you think of it as a one-box solution for BD and a USB DAC?_mykl
