Yikes! I was able to get the newly installed replacement bulb to work correctly after viewing all the very helpful forums on the site- it is wonderful thanks to you all who have contributed! I then stupidly left the controller unattended on the table with the services menu open for my 6 year old to find. After snatching it back I quickly exited the services menu, hoping that none of the buttons pushed would be permanent, but alas that is not the case. The short version is that we now have a very green, dark picture- everyone looks sea sick despite all the changes I can make through the regular menu settings. Is there hope that I can find all the service menu settings published somewhere and compare that to what my current settings are? These green people are making ME sick Thank You!
First type are SETTINGS or SWITCHES which are the same for all models with the same hardware inside. (Some models could have several different configurations in hardware configuration.) So if you now for which hardware-configuration a settings list is for, and your set has the same configuration, you can "copy" the values from this list.
The second type of settings are ADJUSTMENTS. They are for compensating tolerances of components or mechanics and are therefore different for EACH INDIVIDUAL SET, even they are of exactly the same model, hardware configuration version. Even if the serial numbers only differs on the last digit, there could be a big difference in adjustment values for two sets.
So, there is no list of settings that will solve your problem.
The best you can do is to consult an authorized Sony workshop. They will use an interface (TRACE, TL-jig, TL-WAX-jig or similar), software (TRACE, Code2) and an "master dataset" to load a dataset to start with.
Then, the set will be adjusted "by hand", observing the screen by the eye or with a color analyzer. To do this, you need to have experience in this kind of jobs.
Thanks for the reply. Based on that I believe there we're adjustments made to one of the "red" adjustments. If I understand you correctly it sounds like an expensive fix. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to the way that the adjustments are displayed in the settings menu. Is there a settings diagram published anywhere like the service manual that would explain the order? My thinking is that if I understood the names of the adjustments and had a "map" to get to the correct set, I could then isolate the setting and adjust it back "by hand" as my 6 year old did originally? It just seems crazy that you can repair a computer based on a the programming schematic, but there's not one available for the TV! Thank you again for the help, I am so frustrated with this process.
Sorry if this is naieve, but would one of those calibration dvd's be of any use, or are you limited to adjustments available through the regular settings menu and not the services menu?
Maybe you can post a photograph of the picture here, or send it to tv(at)techie(dot)com ?
This may give a clue which setting is not OK.
