Does anyone have a service manual for an HCD-EH15 mini-system. It's the component part of a CMT-EH15, which is the model number of the entire mini-system including the speakers.
I have one that shuts down when you turn on the CD player. It only does this intermittently. Sometimes it will work for hours at a time, then when you turn off the CD and restart it, the system shuts down. When you turn it back on, it shuts down again as soon as the CD starts spinning. It does this several times, then suddenly it turns on and works fine. I've narrowed it down to occurring when the laser assembly turns on because when I pull the ribbon cable to this assembly, it starts up fine.
I'm thinking it's a bad power supply somewhere but I can't continue without at least a schematic. If anyone has this service manual or even any suggestions, I'd greatly appreciate the help!

Hi Boris,
I actually fixed my unit. It turns out the spindle motor for the CD had a short circuit at a particular position. If the motor was spinning, the short wouldn't appear. But if the motor stopped at that certain position, it would cause a short, dragging down the output of the motor driver, and causing the system to shut down due to current overload.
I originally thought it was the motor driver chip itself because I could see the output wasn't correct at times when the motor wouldn't spin. It turns out it was the motor itself causing the problem, but because of the high current I replaced the driver chip with a similar one from another CD player anyway. The chips weren't exactly the same (I had to lift a pin on the new one and jumper it to another pin), but they were close enough that the replacement worked. Both the old and the new driver chips were manufactured by ROHM (http://www.rohm.com/products/lsi/motor/cd_dvd_player/selection/).
The spindle motor can be replaced by another one from any CD player. They're all the same. Look at that component first for your fault. I hope this helps you.
Cheers, Brian
