Trying to prep for a new tv and was wondering if anybody knew if the the digital audio from a hdmi input from either a blu-ray or xbox or something else can be output thru the toslink-out on the tv or is the jack just for the tv tuner.
I have as many as 7 hdmi devices that I would by a switch for but I have not found one that will extract the audio and output to a toslink or coaxial connection for my ta-e9000es processor.
the tv manual does not specify how the toslink output is configured to work.

Hey, Sunlitcomet. I have an XBR9 HDTV and an analog receiver (Sony STD-DA4ES) which is not HDMI compatible. So it is essential that I use the toslink out for my audio through the receiver. I run audio from my blu-ray player or HD camcorder to the HDMI in on the TV then out to the receiver. This works very well.
I hope this helps a you. Please let us know how things turn out.

This is a bit off-topic, but how much of a degradation in sound will there be running the HDmi into the component and then using the Optical out to be sent to the receiver?

I souldf have added that it passed DD, prologic and DTS with no gripes. My 9000es readout was the same for signal details etc. when direct connect or thru t.v..
