Has anyone tried playing back 3D content on their PS3?  I'm curious as to the PS3's implementation of 3D, given the fact that 3D requires HDMI 1.4, and the PS3 is only 1.3.  Several rumors have stated the playback is only in 720p/1080i.  I wonder just how true this is.

PS3 is probably the most non-standard HDMI device.  It's not HDMI 1.anything.  It's more like HDMI 1.PS3, lol.  For example despite being "1.3", the older [fat] PS3 cannot bitstream, nor can it support HDMI-CEC (Bravia Sync), and even firmware/system updates cannot change these facts.

HDMI 1.3 was required for bitstreaming (of course it does not mean bitstreaming is definite, but you'd think if the PS3 really was 1.3 it could be updated to support it); HDMI-CEC is supported since HDMI 1.0 so again another mystery as to why it can't do that...  However the newer slim PS3 does these things no problem; and both are being updated for 3D.

In other words it (and by it I mean the PS3 and the PS3 alone) doesn't have to be HDMI 1.4 to support 3D it just has to be the PS3 and it just has to have Sony release an update that makes it so capable.  If they can't or don't release an update for something, it can't do it; if they do, then you're smiling.  If coffee brewing is a future feature of HDMI 1.5 and Sony releases an update that lets your HDMI "1.3" PS3 brew coffee then you'll be enjoying a pot without leaving your game of Uncharted, once the update is out.  If they don't update it though, then you will have to pause the game and go into your kitchen, lol.  But just because it's a feature of HDMI 1.5 does not preclude the "1.3" PS3 from having it.

As for the 1080i bit, I'm pretty sure Sony made an official statement that it will do full 1080p 3D.
