Is it better to have the backlight on a low setting, I currently have it at 7 or 8 depending on the light in the room. Or should I turn it way down and have the "picture" setting turned way way up to compensate. I have Direct tv HD. my other settings are as follows picture:66 brightness:48 color:29 hue:50 sharpness:27 color tone: nuetral NR: off

leave it on 8--try pic=82---bright=56---color=25(sony has the setting WAY to high for home use)---hue=R2---temp=neutral--sharp=22---noise red=low---ace=off---gamma=med(brightens up the background a tad,not so dark)---clr white=off---live color=low---works for me!! but its all a matter of taste---these settings for ME--are fine--takes a month or so to set the pic on a new tv for me anyway--try my settings and adjust from there--good starting point--have fun
