I recently was given a Sony kv34xbr910.  It has the intermittent blinking 6-7 light problem that I have been reading about, so I am going to replace the two mcz3100d IC's.  The set works if I unplug it for several hours and plug it back in.  I took out the D board, and the replacement of the IC's looks doable.  I have some soldering experience, and I have found enough info. to help me out.  Here is the first question.  Should I use an 18-pin socket or not?  I have seen both pro and con arguments, and I do not know what to do.

Secondly, when I put the D board back into the set, the clarity of the picture was not as good as when I first opened the set.  Did I do something to diminish the picture quality?  How do I get it back?  I tried using a good DVD player as a reference, and the picture is not crisp.

I really like this site, and I look forward to getting some of my Sony problems resolved.

    Thanks in advance.

I solved the picture quality problem! I discovered a bad solder joint on the board attached to the back of the tube. The bad solder joint was at the point where the the white wire from the flyback transformer connects to the board. The picture is great now.

Now, I am waiting for the new IC's to come in.
