IMHO, I would NOT spend $$$ on those Name Brand HDMI cables.  I bought all of mine from Monoprice and have been very happy.  They offer a variety of colors, too, which makes wire management easier behind my cabinet.  I used Blue for my BluRay player.  Here's a link to their strore:

Also, CNET had an article about inexpensive vs. expensive HDMI cables:

I purchased the HDMI 6ft Cables from Monoprice.com and they are awesome, low price, but better quality than the "budget" cables  you get in the retail stores!

As long as you see the HDMI logo on the cable, you'll be good to go.  This verifies that it follows a specified standard (i.e. HDMI 1.2, 1.3, 1.3a, etc etc).  Other than that, don't fall for the typical Monster "PREMIUM" HDMI kool-aid.  Digital 1s and 0s will be passed the same through a $5 cable as it will a $300 cable like the one here.

I hear that...you have to be smoking crack to order that cable at $274.00?

I especially like the delusional customer review comments.  Out of the 4 reviews, there was one sensible reviewer that compared the cable to a cheaper Dynex brand, and noticed no difference.  Just for giggles, about 4 years ago I tested a $150 Monster HDMI cable to compare to my cheaper $5 monoprice, and saw NO difference in quality.

What about Monster M1000HD HDMI cable? Is this a good HDMI cable?

    NSX520.

    Greetings and welcome.

Follow the advice of the posters above. Save your money and don't drink the Mon$ter kool-aid.

I was at Best Buy the other day and the had the Mon$ter 1000 series cables there for over $400!!! MOTHER OF GOD!!! That's the price of a really nice Blu-ray player!

I guess the old saying still holds true... "A fool and his money, will soon be parted."

I bought PureAV silver series cables online and got them for less than a 3rd of retail. I think I paid about $30-40 for an 8 footer. They are excellent quality, with all the build bells and whistles. I highly recommend them and recently saw some on eBay for $17 for an 8 footer.

    Worth looking into.

Those Mono Price cables are good in my experience. I test them compare them to expensive cables and the difference is nothing. I recommend them.

Also you can go to this web site and get your certification on HDMI cables and learn from the training.

I got my certification and learn few new things.

    G'day lyle,
unfortunately monster and their participating retail outlets are ripping off people old and young , their not necessarily fools but new comers to blu-ray and the digital world that dont know any better.I posted a letter on our new womf(Word Of Mouth Forum) internet forum warning people in my town about these immoral acts by one of our oldest retail outlets that sell monster cable .Unfortunately because it is a small town i couldn't name the retail outlet ,it would come back to bite me latter if i did but i could warn people to reseach cables for prices before outlaying their hard earned dollars.

I'll explain, my old  customer and friend "Brain" ( in his 70's my daughters old school Principal)that i've worked for for over a decade with my personal recommendation went out and purchase a Sony Bravio 100hz t.v and a BDP S360 blu ray player. After purchasing the new gear he then rang me up excited for installation.Next day I started to pull everthing out of their boxs and he started to tell me that the cable to connect the gear was expensive. He asked if this was a normal price for a HDMI cable showing me the receipt. My eyes "popped out" $250 dollars for a 1 meter Monster  800HD HDMI   cable(the BDP360 was only $380).With that i asked to borrow his phone rang my friend the manager of the retail outlet and he told me that was adiscounted  package price deal because he had purchased the other gear, normally the cable alone is $380 dollars .My reply was obvious what alot of bulls...t Brad ,,those cables can be purchased over ebay for $30.00 dollars.he then did the normal side shuffle and stated he get his salesperson Jason who did the original sale to ring me back and explain the sale in more depth(he passed the Buck). When the young saleperson rang back and firstly rattled of the specs for this cable ,I had already had time to use Brian's computer and found monster M1000HD on ebay for $42.00, Buy now!I explained this to young Jason the saleperson that i could buy better than monster for less than $20.00(which we all know) on ebay or buy an upgrade from his 800HD Monster cable to the M1000HD for 40bucks.  So can i return this cable ,his reply was short and to the point "sorry stores policy is no refunds only if the item is faulty".That really ended the conversation and I let him tell Brain that personally over the phone.

I just hooked a friend up with Monoprice. He just bought a new Plasma and BR player and needed to connect it all to his existing HT system.

He was 99.9% ready to buy this Mon$ter HDTV all in one package, that came with an HDMI cable, two Component Cables, one RCA Cable, some screen cleaner and a power strip surge protector/power filter.

The kit was $180 on sale at his local Future Shop. He thought it was an alright deal because each of those Monster items added up to well over $200 bought separately. The only problem was, it still didn't have all the cables he needed.

So I took him on Monoprice and some other internet sites. I got him 2 HDMI cables, 1 Component Cable, 2 Optical Cables and 2 Coax Digital Cables, all the Premium line to boot. Plus, a Pure AV PF30 Power Console NIB from Tiger Direct. PLUS, a screen clean kit. LOL

All of this for the exact same price as that cheezy Mon$ter kit. Was he ever pumped, that he got all that for so little.

Your a good friend Lyle. Your friend is fortunate to have your experience on his side.

Many years ago I bought a TV from Circuit City and the sales clerk was pushing the same type of Mon$ter package. He acted shocked that I didn't jump on such a "deal". His line was,"I can not believe that you are going to spend two thousand dollars on a TV and you won't spend a couple of hundred more to have the premium cables that will give your TV it's best picture.

I passed on the Mon$ter hype then and still do to this day.
