Does anyone know? I've heard that many players convert DSD to 192khz/24bit PCM before going to the D/A converter. So what we are hearing is DSD -> PCM-> Analog.
Is this true?

Does the NS9100ES use the 1796 Burr Brown DACs? I've heard they do pure DSD.

The DVP-NS9100 utilizes 4 DSD1796DBR D/A converters. Each chip accepts two DSD inputs and provides a positive and negative current output for each input. The + and - outputs are separately buffered and and combined in a mixer amp to provide the output. If you wish, I can upload the chip block diagram when I have time at home.

Sounds good. I just snagged a brand new DVP-NS9100ES on ebay for only $570 shipped. Can't wait to get it.

I noticed the player has 2 sets of two channel outs. Do they use that same D/A converter? I hope so.

RW- Are both sets of Stereo Outputs line level, or is one of them variable?

Both sets of outputs are line level. On further investigation, I see that each D/A chip has two DSD inputs and one 2 channel PCM input. The DSD inputs come from the SACD MEDIA PLAYER chip and the PCM inputs come from the LIP SYNC ADJUST chip. The first three D/A chips provide the 5.1 CH OUTPUT. The fourth D/A chip provides the AUDIO OUT (2 pairs of jacks). Its important to note that the AUDIO OUT D/A receives separate L and R channel SACD (DSD) and PCM inputs. This suggests that the AUDIO OUT jacks are only active when playing a 2 CH source such as a CD, 2 CH SACD or SACD set to playback the stereo tracks.

Got my player today. The DACs sound excellent...a little vivider than the DACs in the C222ES, but without being at all harsh. The sound is smooth and clear.
Also, it's a very nice looking unit with a hefty build. I'm very satisfied. I imagine this will be my player for many years to come.

RW- I think that the improved sound quality that you are now hearing with your new NS9100ES will not only include its improved and more capable DACs, but also the improved quality of the parts associated with the DACs for example the Digital filters and i/o converters as well as the output opamps.
D/A conversion is a team sport and you are the coach of a all new and improved winning team now!

Does anyone notice that with this player sometimes you have to push the button twice to get it to respond? This has happened a few times when stopping a disc.

RWetmore -You are correct, that is normal. You have to push the buttons twice to get NS9100ES to respond, when you don't use buttons for longer period of time. I think that player goes to something like stand-by mode, except for CD transport, so that nothing gets in the way of sound quality (all unnecessary circuits powered off).

Do you know this for sure? Is it in the manual?
