You need to go into and exit the Special Mode as described below:

    SPECIAL MENU MODE

    Procedure:

    1. Press the
I/1 button to turn on the main power, then while pressing the [MEMORY/ENTER] button, press the [MUSIC], [INPUT MODE], [MOVIE] button in order.
    2. The message “MENU SPECIALIZED!” appears.

    3. Each time the
[MENU] dial is turned clockwise, the item is switched in order as follows.
    4. To release from this mode, while pressing the
[MEMORY/ENTER] button, press the [MUSIC], [INPUT MODE], [MOVIE] button in order
    again.

    5. The message “MENU SPECIALIZED OFF” appears.

You need to select the second item, SPECIAL.

Am I correct in saying that the only way to get this firmware upgrade is to send in for service???  And if your aren't hacing HDMI issues ( which I'm not ) is there any reason to get it upgraded in the first place???

Hopefully, at some point in the future, every device will have an Ethernet connection so that firmware, bug fixes, etc. can be downloaded over the Internet.   Of course, then some wise guy will invent a virus that finds all these devices and deletes their firmware.  Thus rendering them unplayable.

I believe that the only upgrade so far for the DA7100ES affects only this issue; No Picture and Audio when connected via HDMI to certain TV/ Monitor.

Could someone that has already done the firmware upgrade tell me how long it took from the time you sent it off?  I don't have a HDMI capable TV yet, but I also don't want to miss out on a free upgrade because I plan on going with a new TV in the next year or two.

One more question, with the firmware upgrade will the 7100es pass 1080P from my Blu Ray through to my TV(when I buy a new one)?

    Thanks!

The STR-DA7100ES already passes 1080p video via HDMI. No firmware upgrade required.

I am not able to get into the Special Menu mode listed above.  Is that sequence only available on a particular firmware level that I am not on yet?

I have yet to get a TV with HDMI but am planning on it.  What brands/models were causing the no picture issues?

Sony XBR5 required the 7100ES to get a firmware upgrade.

I am wondering what changes are there in the service menu screen?  My unit was in service about a year ago and I want to see if they ungraded it already.  Nowwould be the perfect time because It is out of the rack currently to send back to service if they had not done it.
