    Not sure where to start, so let me explain my setup first:
    * Samsung HL-T6189 TV - (3 HDMI IN)
    * Sony DA5300ES receiver
    * Sony PS3 (used mainly for Blu-Ray Movies)
    * Tivo HD DVR
    * Wii game console

    Before the purchase of the Sony DA5300ES, I had the PS3 and Tivo units connected directly to my TV via HDMI cables and the Wii via YRW video cable.  Audio was via Digital Audio Out (optical) from the TV to an Yahama Y1100 sound projector.  Picture quality was PERFECT, audio needed improvements due to the room setup.  Replaced Y1100 with new 5300ES(about 1 week old).

    First setup left all units as previous connected, added 5300 to mix with just the Digital Audio out connection.  Not bad, but wasn't the reason I purchased the 5300.

    Next setup was to move Tivo (HDMI6) and PS3(HDMI5) direct to 5300, added a 3rd new HDMI (HDMIout) cable to the mix, this was used to connect 5300 to TV.  First thing I noticed the HDMI light on the 5300 would blink, but could not get a video signal on the TV.  Wasn't sure if the new cable was bad, so I removed the new cable from the mix replaced cable to TV with one of my older HDMI cables - Also moved from HDMI1 to HDMI2 on TV and moved from HDMI6 to HDMI1 on 5300.

    So the setup is now --- PS3 to 5300(HDMI1), 5300 to TV(HDMI2).
    Got video signal, but very degraded quality.  Since I only had two cables that I trusted, I then switched PS3 with Tivo on 5300(HDMI).
    Again, got video, but degraded.  The same was true for the Wii on Video2 port --- Poor video.

    Here are my current settings:
    Surround - Field (AFD Auto), SB Decoding(Auto), SB Dec Mode(DDEX)
    Multi Zone - Main(On)
    Audio - A/V Sync(0ms); Dual Mono(Main); Decode Priority(Auto)
    Video - Resolution (Auto) ---- Can't change, "Funtion Not Available"
    HDMI - Control(On); Audio(AMP); SW level(Auto)

    So I believe I have two issues, not sure where to go from here:
    (1) Video Resolution from 5300
    (2) Multi-Channel Decode lamp on front never lights

    Called Sony help desk --- No help what so ever, they simply want me to send the unit to some repair center in Texas.  This forum is my last step for help before I take the unit back to store and replace with something else.

    Thanks in Advance!

    Welcome to Agoraquest~

    First off...I don't have a 5300 but I notice you said the you currently have connected...5300 to TV (HDMI2)...Do you mean you connected the TV to the 5300 HDMI2 ?...If so...I believe the only connection between the TV and the 5300 should be from 5300 HDMI out...to TV HDMI in...1 or 2...Just wanted to confirm that...

    In the thread below there is mention of page 61 of your owners manual and a "SECURE" HDMI connection...

    As of yet we only have had a few members post with 5300's...So maybe if you give them a chance they will have some answers...Bolderskies usually only posts during the week from work but he seem to have the most hands on experience so far....

    Sorry for the confusion ---
    Want I meant is my TV supports 3 HDMI inputs --- So my current setup is from the TV(HDMI2) port to the 5300(HDMIout) port with all the other devices connected directly to the 5300's input ports.

    Yes, I've checked and rechecked all the cable connections.  And I've read the manual at least 5+ times looking for clues to my problem.

    Thanks --- I will keep checking back for replies thru out the week.

    I don't know if it will be of any help, but have you looked at the "HDMI Control Guide" available with the Operating Instructions at http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-documents.pl?mdl=STRDA5300ES&LOC=3?

    John - Thanks for the suggestion on ffice:smarttags" />11/04/07.
    Yes, I've reviewed the HDMI guide, still no luck.

    I called the Sony help desk again and they suggested I "clear the receivers memory" -- I did as advised -- After memory clear, I'm able to set the video resolution only once before it locks me out again with a display of "Function Not Available".  So I've repeated a few cycles of memory clear, sound calibrate, video set; walking thru most of the video resolution options on the receiver (ie, Direct, Auto, 480, 720, 1080) with no noticeable correction to the video resolution output to the TV.

    However, one glimmer of light after the memory clear process, the Multi-Channel decode lamp on front will light when Sony PS3 unit is played.fficeffice" />>>

    Seems like the unit is too new and few on the market for folks to provide feedback, so I’m planning to return the unit to the store this weekend. >>

    Thanks -

    Is it too late to take the unit back for an exchange to another 5300 ?

    Of the members I have read that have a 5300ES...all report fantastic sound...Maybe you just got a bad one....It does happen...

    Sorry I'm not much help to you, whenever I do get picture on my 5300, its quality is good, even converted from SVideo up to HDMI.

    My issue with the 5300 is that it will NOT convert component viodeo from my 777ES which is reg1 NTSC. My Oz spec 5300 just goes black screen and shows the picture for 1 second out of every 30 seconds then goes blank again (doesnt matter what the picture output quality is set to)..... But it works perfectly if I take out the component and connect either Composite or SVideo through the to 5300 it'll upgrade it perfectly to HMDI no probs...

    One thing to keep in mind (but doesnt solve your problem), from memory I read somthing about HDMI 6 being a seperate special audio input?

    Craig Nike,

    Thanks for the post -- I believe we have diff problems.

    Since I brought my unit from Tweeter and confirmed that I had 60 days to return the unit if defective, I selected to keep alittle while longer to see if I could fix the problem.

    Looks like I've made progress and may be keeping the unit after all.

    My issues were:
    (1) No Multi-Channel Decode lamp on front "Blue" light; This was fixed by clearing the receivers memory back to factory defaults, then confirming that Surround - Field was set to (AFD Auto) and SB Decoding was set to (Auto).

    (2) Could not change Video Resolution - Get a warning of "Function Not Available"; I now realize this is limited to the HDMI inputs only;  Any of the component, composite ports will allow you to change the resolution.  This is basically "upscaling" -- Allowing you to change source resolution from say 480 to 1080 out.  This does not appear to be allowed on the HDMI inputs.  The HDMI inputs appear to want to Auto sync or something.  I was able to get around this problem
    by configuring my source devices, via HDMI, to only send 1080 "fixed" signal, so the 5300 then could autosync as needed.

    So from what I can tell and I did confirm in the small print of the 5300 specs --- Video sources connected via composite, S-video and component cables can be "up converted" to a HDMI video output.  In addition, composite, S-video and components inputs can also be "up scaled" from its native signal to 1080p (i.e. 480i to 1080p).  HDMI to HDMI connections will NOT support "upscaling" it will autosync to the incoming signal/resolution only.

    Hope this helps those with future issues -
