Welcome to the first Agoraquest State of the Website Address

First off, I want to thank everyone for making Agoraquest one of the top websites for Sony enthusiasts.  (Maybe I'm biased, but I think it's the number one website for the Sony Enthusiast.)  This website wouldn't be possible without the  extensive contributions and interactions from our members. Many thanks to jehill, Toli, jttar and Craig_Nike. rkkwan and of course, Maxxwire, who without question has made Agoraquest where it is today.  He has helped thousands of members with detailed and insightful postings, and Agoraquest is honored to have him as our first Sony Adept member.

August 27th, 2005 was our five year anniversary.  Over the last five years, Agoraquest has reached several milestones, and soon we will reach 75,000 members. It's unbelievable how fast we grew from one member in August of 2001 to currently 72,000 plus members in August of 2006.

Agoraquest is currently number one in search results for several keywords and in the top ten for hundreds of keywords in Google and Yahoo (e.g. Sony Forum, Sony Review, Sony TV Forum, 2006 Sony tv, new Sony televisions, Sony products, etc.).  According to our statistics, Agoraquest is viewed in 124 countries monthly.

Currently Agoraquest is being maintained by our text link and banner advertisers.  We are grateful for their support. In the coming months, we will be adding exciting new features for paid subscribers in response to requests from members.  Some of the new features include email notifications based off certain criteria/keywords, watch list for your favorite threads, display paid subscriber status under name, no ads, more statistics in the account center and other new features.  With paid subscribers, we will be able to increase our visibility and hire graphic designers for needed updates for Agoraquest.

In the next month, we plan on asking certain Agoraquest members to be moderators for forum sections.  This will help prevent forums from being spammed and will also stop flaming.  The moderators will have the ability to move conversation/threads to different sections, close/lock threads and edit and delete posts.

In the end of 2006/beginning of 2007, we plan to upgrade the forum to a more advanced forum application.  This will increase the forum features dramatically.  Agoraquest currently uses phpbb version 1.2 which is a bit outdated.  When the forums came out, we had already programmed many upgrades.  When the new phpbb releases came out, we would not have been able to upgrade without deleting all the programming.  However, at this point, it's time for an upgrade!

Future items that we plan on implementing soon are new graphics and the member's section. In the coming weeks we will be adding new forum sections like Blu-Ray/HD DVD.

To date, the biggest concern on the website has been spam.  Agoraquest forums have had a stream of forum spam. Fortunately, the script that was written a month ago has done a good job on deleting past and current spam. Overlooked spam in the future can also be deleted by the forum moderators.

We have some good news in that we have acquired freephotohost.net two weeks ago.  Freephotohost is a free photo hosting site that has 500 megs of space and 7,500 of bandwidth.  This website will help Agoraquest members upload photos to use with their forum posting.  This has been an issue in the past since the forum online HTML editor wasn't completely reliable and user friendly.  In the next week or two, we plan to remove the upload feature in the online HTML editor and instead allow photos to be easily uploaded to freephotohost.

Again, I want to thank everyone for contrbuting to Agoraquest, and we look forward to our 100,000th member and future successes in Agoraquest's future.

    Claudio
    Founder
    Agoraquest

Note: If there are any forums sections you want to see in the future or any features that you would like to see for paid subscribers, please post them here. Also, any suggestions or comments that would help Agoraquest is appreciated. Thanks

Claudio congratulations for making Agoraquest a reality.  I look forward to the time I spend here on a daily basis.  We really do have an awesome group of members.  I look forward to the changes in the future.

Since you asked I would like to see a CD/SA-CD/DVD/Blu Ray software forum in which members could discuss music or movies discs that we particularly enjoy and want to share with the membership.  As Maxx once pointed out I asked for the DIY forum and you delivered.

    THANKS!!!

    Claudio,

I loved "The first Agoraquest State of the Website Address". I for one look forward to the new changes and appreciate all that you do to supply us with this vehicle to learn and help each other with Sony products.

If there is anything I can do as a mod or otherwise to assist this fantastic forum it is my pleasure to "throw my hat into the ring".

I am looking forward to the improvements!  I have had a lot of time on my hands for the last three years because I retired on 09/30/03.  I have immensely enjoyed the time that I have spent here on Agoraquest.  However, I am unsure whether of not I will be able to act as a moderator because I am planning on starting a new job in October.  That will significantly reduce my availability.

Claudio- Thank you so very much for providing a place for some of the kindest and most knowledgeable Sony oriented folks on the web from around the world with a common place to gather and share.

I just celebrated my 4th anniversary here at this gathering place we call Agoraquest. Right from the time I became a Member a transformation occured and my progress in obtaining the goals in my A/V hobby shifted into overdrive as a whole new world of possibilities opened up to me.

After watching this exact same thing happen to so many other new Members over the years I have come to refer to this phenomenon as The Agoraquest Effect.

There is a tremendous flow and exchange of information here at Agoraquest. Thank you ever so much for providing a place where we can share what we already know in order to learn what we need to know.

If there is anything that I could do to help you and your staff in the changes that you are planning to implement here at Agoraquest I would be glad to offer any assistance that I may me capable of rendering.

    Maxx,

I think that you would be a perfect MOD. Not only for the knowledgable, fair person you are but also as I have said in the past, there is little that goes on here at Agoraquest that escapes your watchful eye.

Hi Claudio, I look forward to the upgrades to the sites, thanks for the "state of the website address".

Just a quick comment that I "paid up" as a member a few years ago, but I dont think I have renewed, you may need to check into the yearly membership process also.
In addition I have never been able to access the "Members Only" Forum, even after I paid up?

    Thanks
    Craig

    Craig,

Good point. I too am guilty of not being a recent "paid up" member which I will remedy. Perhaps a yearly reminder would help.

As far as not being able to access the "Members Only" Forum, it is my understanding that only the writers and programers of Agoraquest have access to this part of the forum. I also have never been able to access this part of the forum.

Joe's right about only writers and programmers having access to the Members Only Forum. I wonder if they all have Members Only jackets with the Agoraquest logo on them?

If such jackets exist, would they be black, silver or champaign colored?  Hopefully the Agoraquest logo would light up with that pretty familiar blue.

Ideally the jackets would be available in all 3 colors to match whatever color of Agoraquest Cap you own.

Has anyone mentioned having a trading post section yet?  Make Agoraquest the first place people want come to sell their Sony gear. That would rock.

    rb,

It has been discussed before. Although, I believe that Claudio didn't want Agoraquest to have to bear any responsibility for the sales or problems that might arise from them.

btw-I also like the idea, but understand and respect Claudio's position as I am sure that we all do.

The way things are now Members will occasionally sell a piece of Sony gear here things have worked out well so far because the sellers have good reputations.

As far as the general public selling gear here I think that there are a number of very well known websites that are already doing their best to try to keep up with all of the all too common fraud that occur in selling used A/V gear on the internet.
