Hello everyone. I'm new here and I'm not sure if this is the proper place to post this, so here it goes: I've recently purchased/ demoed some ES gear. I was thinking about purchasing a CD recorder, as I prefer a rackmount unit to burning on a computer. Can anyone tell me if there are major differences (other than the price) between these two units? I was a little surprised to see that the weight is almost identical, and the front panel control layout is very similar. Thanks for any and all help. Regards, Steve B.

the only functional difference i've been able to discern is that the 500C has no digital coax in or out. If you'r looking to save some money this may or may not be a big stumbling block, however the money you save comes at the cost of that historic ES build quality

Yep, I understand what you're saying- which is exactly why I was surprised to see the weight similarities. Usually (from my limited experience) the ES pieces are heftier- better construction, power supplies, etc. I'm pretty sure they're both built in Malaysia. If the digital coax is one of the few differences, it wouldn't be a big deal as this would be just a duplicator only.... possibly use the changer for background music- nothing critical.

californ90/psavtech,
I would have to take a look at the schematics, but even though they look very similar, I would bet that the ES version has better drives and components inside. Also the RCD-W2000ES includes a five-year parts & labor warranty, while the RCD-W500C only comes with a one year parts & labor warranty.
