Ultimate Electronics (regional electronic chain) in their Sunday newspaper ad today has the DVP-NS3100ES listed as "CLOSEOUT Limited to stock on hand". Price is $349.95. This may indicate that this model is being discontinued and/or replaced in the near future.

retate,
I checked on this and according to a Sony rep, the DVP-NS3100ES isn't scheduled to be replaced, at least not yet. But, the silver version is going out of production.
The Ultimate Electronics ad had the black unit pictured. However, this is the organization whose sales people had no knowledge of the DVP-NS9100ES in late November so no way to know if they have any idea what is going on. I had to talk two of their sales people through finding the DVP-NS9100ES in their computer system only to be told that it was on back order, and they had no idea when they would be getting any so I obtained my elsewhere.

I have a 9100ES, and I am very happy with it. It replaced a 5 year old 9000ES. Audio is much improved on the 9100ES versus the 9000ES including on Red Book CDs. Bass and imaging are two areas that were both immediatley noticeable as better. In terms of video one area that stands out as much better is in low light scenes. For example, one of the Allison Krauss DVDs there is much better resolution in some of the shots of the hall. The 9100ES was the first step in a move to multi-channel so my comments are limited to stereo audio at this time.

It could be that it's just Ulimate Electronics that won't be carring the 3100ES anymore. And all they might be doing is clearing out thier stock.
So how are you enjoying the 3100ES? What DVD player did you own before and how does it compare?
I dont think UE is that bad I bought my tv from them and they seem fined they are more like the consumer electronics person just one steup above I know there is a lot of guys/gals on this forum who know the above and beyond like 2 years ahead of time. Anyways I wish the 3100 was going out of stock im having a hard time finding the silver one I want since I dont want the 7100 too advanced for me...

jocktheglide,
Have you called Oade? They have really great prices. And, last time that I checked, they had both silver and black available. Also, Crutchfield has a silver DVP-NS3100ES in thier Scratch & Dent section.
Why though, have you ruled out the DVP-NS9100ES? It is a great unit and as there are several DVP-NS9100ES owners here, I feel confident that they could help you with any questions, that is assuming that the rest of us couldn't.
toli, it be too advanced for me anything above the 7100 is more than what I needed im gotta get those speakers which someone recommended me forgot what they are anyways plus I want something in the 7.1 setup min. I did look at the 9100 and yeah thats badass man.....

retate,
I believe that the speakers you are referring to are the Athena F2s, they are absolutely great speakers and you will not be disappointed. I have heard them myself and for the prices you can get them for, makes them even more incredible.
As to the DVD player, you certainly have to be comfortable with what you get. I am not sure if price has a factor in your decision. If it does call Oade, thier prices might surprise you. If your decsion is based solely on the DVP-9100ES being too complicated to operate, I am sure that we can help you through it. Also, did you see that both Oade and Crutchfield have the silver DVP-NS3100ES in stock?

jocktheglide,
The STR-DA3100ES is a nice receiver, I know a couple of people that really like it. And I hope that your sale goes well, as the Athenas are quite nice and you'll really like them, you can ask alot of people around here. I recently bought a new STR-DA7100ES, have you had a chance to hear it yet? If so, and if you like it you may want to consider one. You can get it from Oade, with tax & shipping for just a few hundred more than a STR-DA3100ES.

jocktheglide,
I know for sure that the STR-DA7100ES is $1,240.00, tax, title, license & shipping w/double boxing. I am pretty sure that the STR-DA3100ES is $625.00 total as above and they only have it in black, but I would have to verify this price on Monday.

you know everytime I see the 7100 reciever I want it, but I cant jusify the extra cash for it vs the 3100. I mean i probably dont need the HDMI inputs in the 7100 since Im going straight to source and the 3100 will probably suit me fine.

jocktheglide,
Just so you know you probably won't beat Oade's price, at least not from a reputable dealer. But, they have the whole next week off for Easter and won't be open again until April 24th. Also, have you actually heard both receivers? Don't get me wrong, I have heard good things about the DA3100ES, but I would suggest listening to both of them in person before you purchase.
