Mr_Mod,
I have a friend at Oade and he told me it's related to the "duties" and something to the effect of; if the recipient doesn't pay the duties, the seller has to. I believe that they may have been burned before.

Mr_Mod,
It appears that things work differently 'Down Under'.
Have you ordered from Oade before? If you have, I assume that any warranty is null, or can you get warranty service in Australia, on Sony products purchased from the U.S.?

tbone7467,
I was considering both the DA9000ES and the DA7100ES, so I asked my friend at Oade what he thought, because he gets to listen to all the products that he sells. I asked him to comparing these two receivers and then I asked him why he said what he said in the first quote, this is how he responded:
"I suggest you NOT buy the 9000, it cost a good deal more and does not sound as good.", (talking about the the DA7100ES)"it uses the new 32 bit S-Master Pro digital amp system which has a cleaner, more detailed sound with a very quiet background..."

tbone7469- We have intercepted Sony internal communications that have mentioned the new DA X200ES series Receivers which may have 1080p and other capabilities that the DA X100ES series Receivers do not have.

Are we positive that the DA7100ES won't pass a 1080p signal, has someone tried it? It does say in the DA7100ES's technical backround paper that it will pass a 720p signal, so it may be possible.........

Maxxwire,
I did read that review, but it wasn't clear to me if they actually tried a 1080p source and it wouldn't pass, or if they just took that from the STR-DA7100ES's product information which says about the HDMI connection "In addition to providing 480p, 720p or 1080i,.....". Also, my friend at Oade said that per HDMI specs that it seems like it should, but he hasn't been able to actually attempt that yet.

Beleive me if the DA7100 was 1080p capable Sony would have said so very clearly in the specs and they would have bright colorful stickers plastered all over it like every other product on the market that is 1080p capable because those are the hot selling items in 2006!
It is naive to think that the DA7100ES might suddenly go from 1080i capability to 1080p without it being equipped to do so just by wishfully hooking a HD-DVD player up to it when the design engineers have clearly stated that it was not designed it to handle that resolution.

I can wait an see I am not in that big of a hurry. I am extremely disappointed that Sony ES will no longer be silver though. I thought the silver looked more high class then the black.

Maxxwire,
I think that those specs that show the max output as 1080i may be in reference to the upconversion capabilities of the DA7100ES not the pass-through. Although I'm not 100% sure, I may not be so naive, see below.
All,
Check out this link from the Sony ES site, just click here, where it gives the benefits of HDMI technology. Below is a brief excerpt, I bolded the most relevant parts:
Customer Benefits of HDMI technology 100% Digital |
 |
- No Compression, no conversion
- Pure digital picture and sound direct from the source (as it was meant to be seen and heard)
- Video and Audio signal remains digital from output device to display device
- Best quality sound and picture
- Bandwidth to spare for HDTV
- 1080p capable and beyond
- Over two times 1080i bandwidth
- Includes YUV color space support
- Only one cable required
- All HD video and audio in one cable
- Replaces up to 8 audio and 5 video cables
- Reduced Wiring Complexity

tbone7467,
While you wait, keep in mind when you select a TV, just because it may be a 1080p set and have an HDMI connection, so far very few sets allow a 1080p signal to pass through it's HDMI connection.
