Hey guys. I have a good question for you. Which is better, Satellite or Digital Cable? I done some reasearch into both types, and am concerned if I spend cobs on a reciever that supports 1080i HD. Will it support 1080p when it comes available, or will I have to buy a new reciever?
I don't want to know the obvious stuff, like Cable, won't be black out in bad weather, or those types of things. Any other info you could give at this point would be great.

I have Cable at home and when I go to my Dad's and watch Dish Network on his 50" Sony Grand Wega the still images are sharp and crystal clear, but when they start to move they become blurred and out of focus which is not a problem on Cable TV.

I assume that by "receiver" you mean an audio receiver and not the satellite receiver, is that correct? If so, I would suggest running all video directly to the TV if possible.

Here in Canada Bell Expressvu has the most bandwith that they dedicate to the HD channels, and the picture is noticeably better. I saw an HDTV booth at a convention for the store I work at last year and they had three Sony 40" LCD's, all running the same DVI cable, all configured the same from Starchoice satellite, Rogers Digital Cable, and Bell Expressvu satellite HD boxes and the Bell was the clear winner. That was what made a large part of my decision in getting the Bell. They also have the largest HD lineup of the services. If the dish is mounted properly then weather is enver a problem, its not the snow in the air that disturbs the picture, it's when it builds up in the dish. I put mine under the overhang of my roof and it can still point up to the satellite, i have yet to have it go out even nights with 8-12 inches snow. As for 1080p you would probably have to buy a new receiver, so probably the rental option would be the best idea. With those programs once your 2 year rental agreement is up, you could just trade the receiver for a new model. I wouldn't expect 1080p here over sat or digi cable for quite some time anyways based on people i have talked to in the HD recording/broadcasting field.

Well, I'm not sure where you were going with that, but anyway. By 'receiver' I mean, tuner box. My A/V reciever is not a concern.

It looks like edconline answered your question. I wasn't sure if your concern was the HD signal passing through the audio receiver. I just wanted to be clear in my response.

The problem is your DAD's TV. I have seen the same thing on the Grand Vega's from both sat and cable.

Do you have DISH Network? I know that I haven't experienced those symptoms on my TV with DIRECTV.

Toli no I actually don't own a Grand Vega either. I did sell them starting with the first generation out of two different stores. One store had digital cable the other had sat. I would see the same smearing as if the processor could not keep up from both sources. I should add that it was on a HD signal.

I've seen this same effect on every LCD display I've everseen both flat pannel and rear projection so I just assumed that it was a problem with the signal.
The problem could be that I am just too used to watching a fine pitch Tube display.

When I was out shopping for TV's with my DAD none of the LCD displays looked right. It was like there was a very sligh delay in the action scenes almost like there was a problem with the 2D Comb Filter.
I think that I got spoiled by the 533M hz outboard Digital Comb Filter running my 25" Sony Professional Video Monitor (PVM 2530).
