And I may have done just so, Maxx.
Taking Rickey's advice I used the Tara Labs on the mids/woofs and I used some of my darker sounding Canare wire on the tweets. With the RSC the bass is much tighter than with stock and the Canare has lessened the harsher high's. It's quite nice actually.
And so it continues .........

Further update.
Last night I added some high density (6lb/ft*3) fiberglass insulation to the innards of the 2.2's hoping to acoustically dampen it.
It made no discernable difference.
Maxx, yep I think the change in wiring has brought forth better sound.
I'll play with the X'overs this weekend

I'm glad to hear that you met with such success, and remember speakerwire isn't the only kind of wire that can have this very positive effect on sound quality there are also Analog and Digital interconnects and very importantly AC Power Cords all of which can have a profound effect on the sound quality of an Audio system!

Update!
I put better caps and resistors in the X'overs and things opened up a tad. Tough to say really. What was plainly evident was that the R/C changes did considerably improve the "clarity" of the 2.2's at low power.
I think I'm done playign around with these. Now I'll simply sit back and enjoy them. What's staying is the extra bracing and change of X'over components. The sound is improved somewhat with these mods but not as much as I had imagined when I first opened them up, at least not in comparison with the improvements in sound quality I have seen in other speaker designs with some tweaks applied to them.
This is a good thing as it probably means the designers of the 2.2's really did their homework. I'm still going to try and grab hold of a pair of 2's and compare them with the 2.2's.

Pneumonic,
Thanks for the update. It is good to hear that you have been able to tweak the last drop out of the Athena 2.2's and are pleased with the outcome. It's time to reap the rewards of your labor and enjoy their fantastic sound.
If you ever do land a pair of 2's please don't forget to give us a comparison. We have yet to hear from someone who owns both the 2's and 2.2's and how they might differ in sound.

I would also like to hear a listening comparison between the AS-F2's and the Tweaked AS-F2.2's.
