So far the sound of the AS-F2.2 has been praised. The only objection has been that it is 7 lbs. lighter than the AS-F2.

I'm wondering if some weighting (7 or more lbs.), Rigid Coupling and Mass Loading the AS-F2.2 would put the sound of these two speakers on a par with each other since they have the same speaker array?

I am new to the forum , and found that I may have a question on the Athena As f2.2 speaker system . The shipping weight of this speaker is 51 lbs .Could this possibly explain the 7 lbs difference between stereophiles review of the f2 and the new f2.2 ? The shipping weight may have been given instead of the actual weight of 44 lbs ? I now have a pair of 17 year old boston acoustics towers T 1000 .The foam on the woofers is starting to rot and I'm left with three choices . One replace the drivers( very costly) two replace the surrounds myself , or buy a new speaker system .I am 72 years old and on a fixed income ,so if I can buy an entire system for less than the cost of new drivers , I then have some serious thinking to do .Everything I have read at this site makes me want to go out and give the f2.2 a long and hard listen . Any ideas ?

TP- The Athena sales rep confirmed that the AS-F2.2 had been lightened to reduce their shipping costs from China.

I would suggest that you contact Orange County Speaker and get an estimate on the refoaming of your speakers. This might be the most economical way to go.

Thanks for your reply .I did visit a website for refoaming in florida . the instuctions for shipping were to mount the speakers to a light board with screws or bolts to make them secure .I have a total of six speakers to be shipped . So that would entail for me something of a job . I tried to figure the cost , and counting what they want to refoam  each speaker plus shipping it comes close to half or a little better of what new  drivers would  cost .Plus I won't have the use of my system for a few weeks or more .Not having the use of my system would bother me the most . I'm sure you know exactly what I'm talking about .So I will check out the f2.2 and also the infinitys primus 360 and then make my decision as to buy or replace .Thanks again .

We haven't heard a lot about the Athena AS-F2.2, but what we have heard has all been good.

           Maxx,
I have been in touch with an audio store a few minutes from my home . As of now they do not have AS f2.2 in stock but will have shortly .I was told that if I give them a call tues.6/13 they will be able to give me an exact date they will receive them .So far I'm having a harder time tracking down the infinitys primus 360 .I would have liked to audition the both of them .Will keep you posted .

Dom- From what we've heard it will be worth waiting for that slow boat from China that is carrying your Athena AS-F2.2 speakers.

      Maxx,
I called the store yesterday and I was told they are not sure if and when they would have them in stock .They did invite me to come in with some CD's and to listen to the smaller version ,so as to get a basic idea of what f2.2 would sound like  . I also contacted Best Buy as to when they would have them back in stock , and a store where I may audition them ( all sold out) .

Dom- Sorry you have to wait so long for the Athena AS-F2.2 speakers to come in, but the fact that they are completely sold out indicates that they are a very good seller which can't be bad news!

Have patience because a good pair of speakers can last you through several successive generations of Audio gear upgrades.
