    Hi!
It may be novie kind of quesions but I want to give a gift to my parents a Good Home Theator system for their 13 x 12 feet room.

    I am planning following configuration

    Amp:- STR-DE897 ( Should I also give thought for STR-DB900? )

    Speakers:- SS-MF650H, SS-CR350H, SA-WM500 and SS-SR351.

DVD playerVP-NC62k (becuase this supports Div X).

It would be really good if anyone provides the suggestion on above configurations.

    regards,

    narendra.

Welcome to Agoraquest!  Its very difficult for us to tell you what to get.  Are your parents discriminating listeners?  Is this the first surround system that they have had?  It looks like you have already put a lot of thought into what to get.  I'm guessing that the total cost of the items that you have selected is within a budget?

Have you auditioned the two receivers?  They both are rated at about the same power, but you should know that the STR-DB900 uses digital amplification while the STR-DE897 uses analog amplification.  The STR-DB900 has 6.1 channels (one back) while the STR-DE897 has 7.1 channels (two back, but you can use only one if desired).  The STR-DE897 has far more I/O capability than the STR-DB900, including TV/SAT and DVD component video inputs, although they both have the same digital I/O capability.  If you run all video inputs to the TV, its probably a toss up as to which would be the best choice.  Generally, the build quality of DB line receivers is superior to DE line receivers.  The choice is entirely up to you!

    Hi jehill,

Thanks for the reply. My parents are going to get the sorround system first time. I did put lots of effort in what to get. and total cost is withing my bugget.
I auditioned STR-DE897 with specified set of speakers. It is amazing. While going through sony booklet, I came to know about STR-DB900 and learnt that it uses digital amplification. But I could not get audition of it. STR-DB900 would cost me $300 more than STR-DE897. I can spend $300 but if it worth to have digital amplification with this cost with future consideration.

    regards,
    narendra.

If the STR-DB900 costs $300 more, I wouldn't bother with it.

No.  I mean that it is NOT worth spending $300 more to buy a STR-DB900.
