Hello everyone!!! I am currently interested in purchasing the Sony KDFE42A10 LCD hdtv. Can anyone provide me with any pros/cons on this particular model? The store I have been in to look at this tv has been Circuit City and Best Buy. These stores only have this tv displaying the HD content. What does the basic non hd channels look like on this model.
I just want to make sure I am going to make a good quality purchase.

Welcome to Agoraquest! The KDFE42A10 should be as good as any other rear projection LCD TV. The picture shouldn't be too bad on SD channels, but that can be affected by the digital cable box that you are using. The contrast ratio won't be as high as it would be on a quality CRT or plasma set, but you will learn to accept that. Periodically you will have to replace the lamp, which is easy to do. If I were buying a replacement for my KV36XBR450, I wouldn't hesitate in getting a rear projection LCD TV. One big advantage is the weight reduction, unless you go for say a 70" set.

thanks everyone.
mroctober,
Greetings and welcome. How the SD channels look will depend on the quality of signal from your cable or satellite provider. It's the old garbage in/garbage out theory. I have DirecTV running through my KDF-55WF655 LCD RPTV and the majority of the SD channels crisp and clear. Of course the HD channels are stunning to say the least.
As long as you have a strong, clean signal from your cable, satelite or OTA antenna you should be pleased with the PQ of the SD channels. I hope that this is of some help in your decision. I have seen the KDFE42A10 at my local Best Buy and it is a very sharp looking model.
What is the difference in the DLp technology compared to the Sony 3LCD?
Also, what is the life expectancy of the projector bulb, and will there be any "burn in" issues with the sony?
thanks

Advance
