Hi Everyone, and happy holidays,
My dad has a Sony KF-50XBR800 that has been suffering some ghosting problems. I was hoping to be able to fix it up for him as a Christmas gift. The TV's built in image revision settings do not correct the - they only seem to make it worse. I am thinking that I will have to tinker with the service mode settings. Can anyone point in the direction of the particular service mode settings that will address the ghosting issue? (I took at the service mode earlier and the sheer number of settings was pretty overwhelming.)
Also, would there be any harm in doing a "reset to factory defaults"? Or would that be a form of television suicide?
Thanks for all of you help, and enjoy the holidays!!!

How do you reset the KF-50XBR800 LCD HD Monitor back to "Original Factory Settings"?

My KF-50XBR800 has started having bad ghost images and I took it to Sony repair and they claimed it needs a new optical block which would cost $2400 to repair. I am talking to a lawyer about this so email if you are interested in joining a class action lawsuit regarding the optical block needing to be replaced after only 3 years. It also is rebooting constantly.

Do you see the double images with the OSD? Did you try each of the manual Image Revision settings? the following TIP is available that takes you into the service menu to make adjustments that may correct the problem without the need to replace the optical assembly:
Document Reference/Event ID: E20256050 Model: KF50XBR800, KF60DX100, KF60XBR800 Subject: Image Revision adjustment for Double Image. Ghosting.
SYMPTOMS Double image. Ghosting. I have tried E19763341 (service bulletin that tells you to try the manual adjustments) but the double image still exists. Is there something else to try rather than swapping the Optical Block?
RESOLUTION Yes. Try the attached procedure. This has proven to be very effective.
The procedure is lengthy and complex enough that I can't include it here. However, if you want it, go to your Inbox at the bottom of the left column and send me (jehill) a private message with your request and your e-mail address and I will send it to you. YOU ARE COMPLETLEY ON YOUR OWN IF YOU ATTEMPT THE PROCEDURE!

Yeah I have a 60XBR800. I had my Sony Service man come out and took a look at it a $155.00 call figured it was worth it. He went into the Service Menu and did a lot of adjustments and after the repair it looked better than it did but still had the ghosting. He explained that the image block would have to be replaced if I wanted it any better. I sat there with my mouth open thinking XBR the Best I want it any better? Huh. Thanks I said please get me a price on it and call me back. I called today and they said it would be $900.00 for the Image block and around $200.00 for labor. I called 800-222-Sony because I have had out of warranty repair on this TV before abot a year ago for the Interlaced Card Replacement it went bad and only Progressive Video would come through the Set. They told me after 30minutes on the phone that they couldn't help me that I would have to pay for the Repair or purchase a new Set. I said thanks for selling me a $6000.00 Paper Weight. Anyways I wish to join any class action lawsuit to get my TV repaired. The funny thing is I asked what the lifespan of the Image Block and they wouldn't tell my I was told that this set would only need a new Bulb every 6,000Hrs or so and that the Set would last me as long as a Tube TV. So I figured I would get at least 10years use out of it not just 4years. Un-believeable. If I did Purchase another set I will looke at the other brands first that is for sure. I might be going back to a tube TV which is really funny.
Thanks Joe

If you are going to look at another brand, I would look at a DLP set because there is only a single chip, eliminating the problems associated with converging the images from three LCD chips as in the Sony design.

wow - this is me 100%. my 50" lcd tv did the ghosting and the guy who's trying to fix it gave me pretty much the same prices - so i'm glad to see he wasn't just yanking my chain on the issue.
today i kissed sony goodbye and went w/a jvc 56" LCoS model. i've had them before, so i decided to go back. after getting that kind of a "hickey" from a company, i pretty much write off their products from my life.
goodyear - gone. circuit city - gone. and my newest member - sony - going...going....
not sure what would be involved w/a class action suit, but the repair dude is calling around to see if someone wants to buy it for parts. i may now keep it just in case i need to lob it back at sony and see if they can make up for this or they're...
gone. : )
thanks for the forums help everyone! (Email Address will not display unless member has 100 posts or is a Premium Member,

First time using a forum for help. If anyone can give me the codes to configure the ghosting image I would greatly appreciate it. Like everyone else I am having the same trouble with ghosting and with Sony's help on this matter. However, the ghosting does not effect every show or sporting event that I watch. With that said any suggestion would help.
Thanks Much!

I too have a 50 inch xbr800 with ghosts. The HD picture on my TV with over the air or dish satellite (811) is perfect but I have green ghosts that appear in white letters of ads or any other picture overlay like football scores. Referees black and white stripes sometimes appear as green and black. I use component video input. Vertical green bar also appears using normal screen along left side. I have not been successful in making menu adjustments, need some guidance!
