Hello everybody!!
I have a sony mhc-rv900d and I was wondering if i could use it to play my ps2 with surround sound with an optical cable. I think it only has optical digital out.

If it has an optical in and a front left/right, Center and surround right and left speaker inputs then yep. Theres no diffrence in quality between optical and coaxial audio cables.

Does it have any inputs at all?

I got curious and looked up some information on the Sony MHC RV-900D-
http://welectronics.com/stereo/sony990d.asp
From the description and picture it looks like this unit only has a pair of Analog Audio inputs to hook up your PS2 to it with.

The welectronics.com link describes and shows a Stereo pair of RCA Analog Audio inputs on the front.

Does this mean that you are not interested in hooking the PS2's Analog outputs up to the mhc rv900d, or does it not have Dolby Pro Logic processing?

Maxx,
The link that you referenced, http://welectronics.com/stereo/sony990d.asp, is for the MHC-RV990D, not the MHC-RV900D, the system in question. That may make a difference.

Good eye John! It could make a difference. Too bad they don't have that same information for the 900d.

I own the 900D which is a decent model, but Sony were very stingy with the features. Pro-Logic decoding only works for DVDs encoded in Dolby Surround. Surround modes are just false two channel simulated sound fields. The 990D as far as I'm aware has PLII which should have covered surround sound for anything put in the CD tray or in the anaogue inputs as it is the case with my MHC-WZ8D.
