I am having a new KDF-55XS955  delivered tommarrow. To get familiar with the set I have downloaded the operating manual and did not find much information on the channel setup for a digital cable/DVR box and DVD player. The manual says that after turning the set on it will attempt to go through all the available channels. If I am using the cable box (DVI to HDMI), will the television automaticlly recognise the cable box and assign a channel to it. Will the same happen to the DVD player, (HDMI to HDMI)? How do I select the various video inputs on the remote?
Any other suggestions for initial setup on this model would be greatly appreciated.

The tuners in the KDF-55XS955 and SA 8000HD both require a signal from the cable provider, via their RF input connectors, in order for the channels to be automatically assigned.

The time required to assign 125 channels should be less than 2 min, however, if you are installing the cable box for the first time, be prepared for a 5 - 10 min waiting period.

You can cycle thur the various video inputs by pressing the TV/VIDEO button on the remote.  You do not have to worry about the DVD player since itís a playback unit and does not record.

Thanks for the reply. Am I to understand that I can skip the channel search when I set up the TV? The only inputs into the telivision will be HDMI, no RF inputs at all. In this configuration, do I just toggle trough the video inputs untill I reach the HDMI input for the Cable box or the DVD?

I seem to recall that the KDF-55XS955 automatically scans for channels the first time that it is turned on, but it is unnessary in your case.   Yes, all that you need to do is toggle through the video inputs until you reach the HDMI input for the Cable box or DVD player.
