I have just bought a Panasonic s97s that has a HDMI out , i hooked it up to the 34" 960 -and thought it looked good -- but not great -- i could not see any diference between the 720 - and the 1080i , i got a good set of componet cables -and set it up for 480p -and that has the best picture , it really looks good --
why would it look better than the HDMI -- and why bother with all that if the 480p is a better picture -- or am i missing something with the HDMI set up -- thanks Rocky

Rocky,
Other members have expressed the same findings and actually prefer to use the component cables over the HDMI. You could try a better quality HDMI cable but only if you can return it if you don't notice enough of a difference to justify the cost.

Thanks Joe
i think i'll stay with the componet , on the dvd -it looks very good- i'm getting a Direct-tv HD set up that has a HDMI out -- i'll use that to go to the 960
does any one have a Direct tv model-10
that's the one they are pushing ?
thanks Rocky

Rocky,
I use a HDMI/DVI cable from my HD300 Sony satellite reciever to my TV and have swapped it out with component cables without seeing a huge difference. I do notice a very subtle change in sharpness and color depth but I really have to look for it. You will do just fine with the component cables. Sorry but I'm not familiar with DirecTV's model-10. Perhaps someone else will chime in.

Thanks Joe
do you know if the full Hd signal will go through the componet ?
1080i / 720p-- is there any difference between that and HDMI---
i told a guy at work about the site he has a 910 / 34" and will be on soon -- i told him about all the great help you -and the others have given me -- thanks to all- and i'm sure i'll have a bunch more questions when i get the HD-Sat.
I've been lucky with my Tv it seems to work well -- though if i had it to do over i think i would have gone with the 42" just more of a good thing --Rocky

Rocky,
Yes, you will get the full HD signal through the component cables. The biggest difference using a HDMI cable is that the HDMI cable is capable of transmitting Video and Audio through the same cable. Component or DVI cables are only Video. Thanks for promoting Agoraquest to your work mate. We can always use more input here.

May look better through component cables because the tv's analog to digital circuitry is better than the digital circuitry of the DVD player.
