When in normal mode (480p), I prefer the left & right bars to be a grey/white color rather than the default black. So I changed the BCOL (mid1) setting from 1 to 7, and saved it (muting, enter). However, it does not save. The bars are still black. When I re-entered the service menu, the bars are grey/white. But why is it not being saved when you exit the service menu? I own a kv34hs420. Thank you.

Update: I changed the BCOL setting while in the FULL mode, and it works now while viewing in the normal mode, but not in the full mode??

scottscott,
The service-code chart for the 34HS510 (similar processor and chips) lists BCOL as follows:
MID1 #24, BCOL
Range = 0-15
BCOL's 4 chart columns:
Single-Normal = 1
Single-Others = 1
Single-MS = 0 (Memory Stick)
Others = 1 (not single = PIP or twinview?)
There is no clue what "Normal" means in this context. It is extremely likely that the manual for your exact set would have the same listing.
The service manual nowhere mentions anything else about the MID1 code group.

From my Excel sheet, BCOL has something to do with color saturation?
