I think you have to be in Pro mode to access it. If you figure out what to do with it, please post your findings. I couldn't make out much from the manual. Switching the various custom modes did not make a noticeable difference in the PQ.

The DRC mode is greyed out when you are viewing a 720p or 1080i input because it is only helpful for lower resolution inputs. Its available in any video mode (Vivid, Standard, Pro) with a 480i input

The default is usually 1080i.
