I just purchased a KV-34HS420 CRT TV. Setting my PS2 to the 16x9 setting in the system menu and DVD menu hasnt given me fullscreen 16x9 playback, is this normal? Also the main PS2 menu dosnt use whole screen.
Instead I get a 16x9 ratio screen floating in middle of TV (aprox 33% screen size) So I have to use the streitch to Full Screen setting on TV. Why cant it output it full to start with?
Is it normal with other DVD players to have to streitch the picture to full mode to get fullscreen movie playback?
Also when playing GTA San Andreas with 16x9 option turned on the TV detects a 4:3 picture, here also I have to use the Full Screen streitch. This is my 1st time ever owning a widescreen TV, so this is all new to me. I just always figured setting the PS2 to 16x9 it would fill the screen for at least the menu and widescreen movies set to play 16x9.
I am using Monster Component cables (400)

Full Screen is the normal screen setting for true Widescreen output. What are you watching when you get the 33% reduced widescreen image? And remember that GTA SA when in Widescreen mode only streches the image to give a zoomed widescreen, it is not a true widescreen image, although it does give approximate 16:9 ratio.

I now understand things a little better then when I posted yesterday. I had my TV set to Standard for widescreen, thus the small 16x9 ratio image. I thought "full" was for making 4:3 screens fill the TV, now I understand that the "full" setting on WS TV's is actually the standard setting for 16x9 ratio material.
Confused me, my flawed common sense figured that under standard it would put 4:3 in the middle, but then when it got a 16x9 signal it would fill the screen. Now I know better..... Strange that my manual even when reading through knowing this, dosnt make that point clear.
Thank-You for your reply Vath, after more carefull searching today (more patience today lol) I see this has been covered here and I made a usless extra thread

There is a flag in the signal that tell the monitor if the picture outputed is widescreen or not. On my KV-30HS420 in normal mode, it will put itself automatically in full mode when watching a dvd movie. Don't forget you have to change the settings in the ps2 dvd player as well (which is a different setting menu from the ps2 settings).
Note that some television will not ajust itself automatically and some won't let you do it manually.
