I was sent this info and files and may be interest to you all, however i wont distribute the files. So if you have the problem then consult your sony service centre and quote E24346799 dated 24/3/04
SYMPTOMS
A DVD Disc which was created by unspecified PC software applications will intermittently not eject and lock up the unit..
RESOLUTION
Perform Version Upgrade using the automatic upgrade software attached.
CREATE VERSION UP DISC.
Copy the attached Zip file RDRupdate.zip to your computer and Unzip.
Copy all of the unzipped data files to a CD-R disc.
ChkFlg.txt FNT_DATA.BIN ROM_DATA.CM1 ROM_DATA.CM2 Ver.bin
[VERSION UP INFORMATION]
From RDR-GX7 : Ver1.10 to Ver1.30
[VERSION UP PROCEDURE AT THE SERVICE]
1. If the unit is in the locked condition of Disc can not eject, press the lever on the right side of DRIVE UNIT, the tray opens and remove the disc. (Refer to the RDR-GX7 S/M, page 5)
2. Reset by removing and reinserting the AC plug.
3. Playback a DVD (any working DVD disc) to initialize the systems data for repair, then remove the disc from the unit.
4. Place the version up CD on the disc tray, then press PLAY button.
5. After loading the disc, select YES of version up which is displayed on the monitor, then press ENTER button.
6. The version upgrade starts automatically.
7. After upgrade is finished, the tray opens automatically.
8. Remove the upgrade disc from the tray.
9. With the TRAY open, reset by removing and inserting the AC plug.
10. Insert the Disc (which would not eject) and confirm whether this disc will now eject or not.
[NOTE] *This version up cannot solve all disc problems. *Disc's of illegal recording may not solve

Mr_Mod,
Thanks for letting the forum know that a firmware upgrade is available to solve these problems. The procedure sounds very similar to the firmware flash I performed on my old Apex 1500 DVD player but that flash was to make it macro and region free.

can you please put up the firrmware update? or direct me to somewhere i can get it?
i recently wrote a letter bitching about the problems i have had with my rdr-gx7 directly to the repair center in san diego
and i got a call back from some paul domman guy from customer service in florida and he spoke to me and told me that no such firmware upgrade for the rdr-gx7 excists.

I am not able to post the firmware, due to possible copyright isssues. However the sony US service bullitin number is E24346799

im not getting anywhere with sony. they tell me it doesnt excist. i wrote a letter to the service center that fixes these units in san diego with the same bulletin numer you posted like i said give me a # of someone at sony who can send me the firmware

oh yeah one more thing your service bulletin number E24346799 sure looks like the customer information numbers that sony gives you when you write them, the number sony gave me as a customer file number was e2511xxxx

Mr_Mod---When the RDR-GX7 was reviewed by Sound and Vision magazine they mentioned that Sony was going to release a upgrade via software/firmware so that it could record in the +R format.
Do you have any info on this????

I cannot eject a stuck dvdrw disc from my machine and see no lever on the right side at all??
Also, the stop/next/open trick did not work for me either/???
I have held the power button down for ten seconds and it beeps at me...i get no messages except POWER OFF...
any ideas...please describe to me where this lever is?
