Does any body know if you can switch between optical in and analog 5.1 in on the Da4es receiver.Ive hooked up a pioneer sacd player with six analog cables and also an optical cable. Now the sacd works fine but I cant seem to switch over to DTS for a movie and Im wondering if this is even possible.I know for sacd I need the six cables ,but on the back of the DA4ES I see an optical in for sacd and sony would know you need analog cables to hear sacd so Im thinking that maybe the sacd optical input is there so you can switch back and forth.Has anyone ran across this or is just either or "analog or optical" not both.I also have a sony dvd player hooked up to recevier and on front lcd lighting on receiver it says either multi ch 1 or coax Is there maybe something on the recevier I need to do to get optical ?your comments would be helpfull.

parney- When you are listening the Multi-Channel input, to get to use the optical input, just switch to one of the sound fields or just press A.F.D. and you should be all set.

parney- The butttons are right above the flip-down cover on the front panel. On our receivers it's labeled 'AUTO DEC'.

The Mulit-Channel button (MULTI CH DIRECT) when you press it, it will toggle between the Multi-Channel 1&2 inputs. When in Multi-Channel mode just press 'AUTO DEC'. I have tried this, although I don't have a SACD player, I saw the input mode change. Let me know if this works for you.

Check and make sure that the input mode of the signal input you are using is set to Digital Optical. From your description it sounds as though it may be set to Digital Coax at present.

parney- Did you get everything working? If not, what exactly did you experience when switching from the Multi-Channel input to the optical input, did you get sound? Also, a note as Maxx said I would set the input to optical fixed. But, using optical, you should get sound with all inputs except 'ANALOG 2CH FIXED' and 'COAXIAL FIXED'.

Thanx for the help I finnally got it to work on back of receiver I unplugged optical cable from {optical sacd in} and plugged it into another place {dvd/ld optical in} it now works great I can get receiver to decode signal love that little blue light lol.I guess this is because I have this player programed as dvd/ld not sacd .anyone on a tight budget that wants to experiance sacd or dvd audio should grab one of these pioneer 563's .

parney- I'm glad that you finally got it working, I am still confused on what we missed in setting you up, unless you didn't select the SACD/CD function, when you wanted to get sound through  digital optical. Because no matter what function you have selected, if you hit Multi-Channel you will get sound through those inputs. But, to get sound from the optical connected to the SACD/CD optical input, the SACD/CD function must be selected.

I connected a source to the Multi-Channel inputs on my 7ES, and I also connected that same source with a digital optical cable to CD/SACD optical in. When I selected the CD/SACD function and press the Multi-Channel button, I got the sound through the Multi-Channel inputs. And then I press the AUTO DEC or any sound field except ANALOG DIRECT I got sound through optical. It's good to hear that you got it to work though.

It may be that the DVD/LD input mode is set to Digital Optical and the SACD input mode is still set to Digital Coax.

Maxx- That's exactly what I was thinking. I don't have a SACD player, I had to borrow one to do the test. I checked it every way I could think of, just to be sure. With Multi-Channel inputs and digital optical connected, with any source selected you can hit the Multi-Channel button, and get audio from those Multi-Channel inputs. Then you can select any sound field except 'ANALOG DIRECT' and get sound, although every one won't have 5.1.

My Sony DB 930 doesn't have an Analog Direct feature, so I use the Multi-Channel inputs for the purpose of bypassing the Digital processing of the DB 930's preamp. Its amazing how much better the Analog signals sound without the additional A-D/D-A conversions.
