Had to send my unit in to Sony for a warranty repair of a common problem on the unit ... sled motor going bad .. even though the manufacture date on mine was after the period it was supposed to be a problem ... go figure.
Anyway, on the repair invoice it also has listed that they replaced the optical khs aaa2-09 ... from a little bit of searching looks like they just went ahead and replaced the laser unit which is also sometimes suspect on these units. Does this sound right? --Rob--

It could be that experience has taught them that its not a bad idea to replace the laser as long as they have the transport apart.

I just sent in my C222ES for another optical unit. 2nd in 3 months. I think those are so unreliable that they just replace them anytime a player comes in...

From what I understand the main reason for a CD player or transport to become obsolete is when the laser it uses is no longer available for replacement.
