Hi all.. i am thinking about my new home theater system... by now the only sure thing are the speakers:
Bose Acoustimass 10 series 3 (wy girlfriend WANTS white and small, quite invisible speakers)... BUT i can choose the amplifier and the DVD player..
I have found three models.. STR 695/S, STR 1080/S and a new(not released in italy yet) STR 995/S
What are the main differences.. and which is the best choice?

Bose' Acoustimass system take the signal from your receiver, reprocess them and power the cubes with its own amplifiers. Therefore, do not pay extra to get receivers with good power or good sound. Get the cheapest one that has all the input/output and processor features you want.
And are you sure there aren't other small and white speakers that aren't Bose? In Europe, I believe you can get other stylish speakers that may outperform the Bose and still satisfy your girlfriend.
Before setting your heart on the Bose system I would take a look at Mission FS2 speaker pack (available in white) and the KEF KHT2005.2, both excellent sets and would make a very good match to a 1080 indeed. Unfortunatly the KEFs are not white but they do silver and chrome.
Both sets are award winning (see the manufactures sites), in GBP the Missons are about £400 and the KEFs are about £900.
Hope that gives you a little to think about.
Cheers

If you are going to be using your Audio system for both Movies and Music you will be better off with a set of full range speakers.

abardi,
Welcome to the forum. The Bose Acoustimass system's have been discussed here before. Before you decide you might want to do a search on this forum and read what other's have experienced. This is one of the threads that come to mind. If you do decide that this is the speaker system for you, I would follow rkkwan's advice, "Get the cheapest one that has all the input/output and processor features you want." Best of luck in your shopping.

Andrea,
Tthis is required reading for anyone considering a Bose system. I would really look elsewhere – You could get a lot of sound for the same money a Bose AM10 would cost you.
As for good-looking small speakers with nice sound, how about the Anthony Gallo Nucleus Micro?
To some they look like toys, but they really do sound nice and the WAF (Wife Acceptance Factor) is pretty high too...
Check out all of Anthony Gallo's products at roundsound.com
As for your amp/receiver question, The STR-DB1080 is a year older than the STR-DE995 and STR-DE695, but belong in the "QS" series which mean a bit higher quality on the stuff inside (as well as aluminium faceplate). The 995 has much more features than the 695, but I'm not up to date on how it stands up to the 1080. Hopefully someone else can chip in on this (hint hint, guys...).
