Hi, I'm from the UK, and am starting out building a home theatre system, I'm pretty much set on the STRDB2000 but am unsure on which speakers to pair with it, I've been looking at the PASCAL range, can anyone comment on either the reciever or speakers?

What is the US equivalent? ( I am guessing STR-DA2000ES, but could easily be wrong.) I am using the USA model STR-DA4ES,one of the last "analog" ES receivers. Analog or not, for what it does, how it does it, and the delivered price of $650.00, I could not be more pleased. In the VFM department, Sony really outperformed any and all competitors, and by a long shot to boot. If I had waited 8 months more, I suppose I would have opted for the STR-DA3000ES, but my 1993 vintage STR-GX99ES was still going strong, and I wanted to experience the new audio decoding schemes on the newer DVD releases- ( DTS-ES, and DD 5.1EX). The 4ES is a truly beautiful, infinitely customizable piece of technology, as only Sony ES can do it. Of course, I am totally biased, so take it for what it is worth, which is about 2 cents. The STRDB2000ES & the STRDA2000ES are the same receiver.I think it would be a good choice. As far as speakers go the Pascal range is the same as the SAVE range in North America.Do yourself a favour and go and audition Mordaunt-Short speakers, they are designed in the UK.The Premier range is what would compete with the Pascals but are worlds better

Am I right in thinking that in the UK the STRDB2000 is part of the QS range rather than the ES, are there any differences between the US and UK models?

STR-DB2000 and STR-DA2000ES are the same model. Previous models have differed in remotes, no component switching in Europe and also no ES 5 year warranty. Don't know the specific differences for the 2k model

    P.S.
The DA4ES is pretty much the same as the STR-VA333ES in Europe.

    Hi, I am back

Yeah Tiny is right its pretty much "badge-engineering" As for your choice I think the 2000 is a pretty good place to start. The key factor is your budget, and then followed by the features you want. If things are tight you can loose a couple of features (power...analogue and less) and opt for a 790.

Completly by coincidence...first day back in the country with my new wife and I am hoping to audition a 790 and 2000 at my local Sony centre this afternoon...... I shall let you know how I get on.

    Cheers,
    Duncan

Well my visit to the Sony Centre was most confusing. I managed to listen to a 790 with a set of pascals, and very nice it was too. On enquiring about the 2000 I was told that they were not expecting any stock for a long time, in fact they were not sure if they could get one until the new year!!!!

This seems to be a nationwide issue with big items at Sony... if it is small they can get it within a couple of days, walkmans LCD monitors etc... if you want a big telly or an amp it can take weeks or months.

There have been some 2000's in and I hope they get them back soon, its nearly Christmas and I will need a new Toy

    Duncan,

Welcome back! Now you can do what I do, buy your "toy" for your new wife as her Christmas present.

    Maxx,

Considering that you don't have a WAF, you may have paid more dearly than I could even imagine Regards.

    jttar

    Duncan,

Perhaps your right. Considering that I am in my third marriage, you might want to do just the opposite of anything I suggest.

Perhaps Sony should do a deal with a Designer and get Shoes or Handbags with all purchases....

When we were married my exwife and I had an agreement, I would buy Audio equipment and she would buy furniture of approxamately the same value. Although she did have quite a facination for shoes come to think of it, I wish I could have thought of Duncan's idea 25 years ago.

Although we were divorced over 19 years ago, when she came down from Seattle for a visit 3 years ago she still managed to pitch quite a bitch about the 52 pieces of Audio equipment and 13 speakers I have. I call it XWAF (eX Wife Anger Factor) since there is no appeasing her. Some things never will change!

    Duncan,

Great idea! With progressive thinking like that your marriage will last a long, long time. I only wish I knew you earlier in my life. Who know's how much audio gear I might have if I hadn't paid for two divorces.

    Maxx,

I hope your "ex" at least appreciated your designer Auralex wallpaper. Too funny.
