scenic- Often times intellegence is defined not by having an abundance of knowledge, but by being able to ask the right questions and I think you may have done just that!
It took me the better part of an hour to track down the detailed specs of the Sony STR DA5200ES, but I finally found them at the Sony UK Website.
From everything I had read the DA5200ES had a decoding format of 24bit/ 192k hz to decode the 5.1 channel 24/192 Linear PCM output of the BDP-S1 Blu Ray Player over HDMI, but what these specs indicate is that the DA5200ES' decoding format is 24 bits/ 96k hz.
Its going to take a lot more research before we can come to any final conclusions, but this is a very interesting turn of events because if this turns out to be true then any Receiver with 24/96 capability and an appropriate HDMI input could use the Hi Rez PCM signal from the BDP-S1 over HDMI. Now that's an exciting prospect for a lot of Sony Fans!
Please be aware that the features/specifications can differ from country to country.
