I feel what your going through, I have the 52w4100 and it did the same thing to me. I have also had my tv right at around 18 months. The bottom half of my TV is distorted and has a burn in slow thing happening. I called Sony talked to them for about 3 hours total, got the run around and they said I have to get a sony certified repair person to come out and diag the TV. This is going to cost me $125 and they still said they are not going to promise anything. It makes me sick. When you find out what happens let me know.

By the way, how much did it cost you to get the estimate. I'm not really wanting to spend the 125 if sony isnt going to do anything for me. I already bought a new TV... I decided to go with a different brand, and after everything that has happened I will most likely never purchase a Sony product again. If I was you I would probably look at a different brand also. I've had friends that have bought Visio and even Insignia TVs that have lasted a lot longer than the Sony TVs we bought and those TVs still work just fine. There are some pretty good deals out there if you look. This is what I ended up buying.

The TV got really good reviews and on top of that LG has a 2 year warranty...

Estimate for my sony Tv is $39.95 at my local Tv repair shop estimated replacement of LCD panel is about $2100.00 Sony says repair is cost too much so they offered my a replacement Tv Sony 46 kdl EX700 for $925.00 or Sony 46 kdl NX700 for $1100.00 both is LED panel not LCD market value is about $1500.00 to $1800.00 I think is a great deal and may look for some kind of extended warranty I learned my lesson this time.

I have the same exact problem with the same TV. Have always owned Sony TVs. Still have two tube TVs with the Sony name that have lasted 20 years. I bought my 46w4100 just over two years ago, and am experiencing exactly what the problem here is. It's annoying, but have found patience waiting for the TV to warm up, I'm up at almost 60 minutes. After it warms up the upper right corner of the TV (while looking at the tv) will stay slightly dark. Really apparent when all white is shown, mostly commercials.
I'm torn. I loved this TV, payed WAY to much for it when it first came out with a blue ray player. Just a year later, everything comparable was 1000 dollars cheaper. Sheesh! I want to get it fixed, but I don't want to pay more than a 200 dollars to get it back to normal.
Two out of three Sony TVs about 20 years old, still going strong. LCD HD awesomeness, is a piece o carp. Very disappointing.
Not sure what to do without paying a significant amount of money. This thing is to big for me to take to a service place, and I'm sure a house call will bel 50 - 100 dollars.
I'm in the San Jose, CA area and if there is anyone out there that has experience in this sort of thing, I'm listening.
Thanks for taking the time to read.

The typical cause of these display problem is due to bad T-CON board. You can Google "
SONY T-CON: E40951307-TCON Troubleshooting 10-22-09_OPT" or download PDF: http://www.mediafire.com/?zzjygannjty or read:

budm, After viewing your photos in your album"http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/SONY/SONY%20KDL-40XBR4/" you have captured my problem (http://i807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/SONY/SONY%20KDL-40XBR4/th_DSC02043.jpg) with my Sony KDL-46V4100 !! Did you just unplug & replug to fix it or did you actually replace the TCON board. I downloaded the above mentioned PDF on the TCON board replacement but it doesn't mention a new board for my model.

Welcome to Agoraquest! There are three different part numbers for the KDL-46V4100 TCON board, depending on the set's serial number. What is the serial number?

My Sony KDL-46V4100's serial # is 8033679. The first day the problem stayed all day but now it disappears after set warms up !! Sam's Photo Facts does not list a repair manual so I emailed them with my request & they found one for $20 (download) !!! Looking over this site I found several fixes for the TCON but if I can locate a new one I think my time would be better spend replacing the board. Electronics is my hobby so I feel confident with my skills & after I download manual I will begin testing. Many Thanks !! I still trust Sony more than any other brand.

The correct Sony part number for the KDL-46V4100 TCON board for serial number 8033679 is 185704322. You may purchase it for $108 at https://servicesales.sel.sony.com/ecom/accessories/web/index.jsp. Use the Part Number search to locate the part. To access the Part Number search, click any accessory category and wait for the next page to appear. A new search option will appear at the top right. Click the down arrow to select the Part Number search.
