I have the HX1 myself-the zoom range is impressive and the sweep panorama feature unique and easy to use.

When the HX-1 came out last year I was shocked to find out that Sony had discontinued using the Zeiss glass that had given the H-9 and H-50 such a wonderful reputation for taking good pictures and replaced it with their own in house lens. I wasn't too surprised though considering they had previously done the same thing by replacing the highly reputable Nichicon capacitors in their DB and DA lines of receivers with their own OEM capacitors of the same value which while saving them money in production costs also sacrificed the performance levels that their Receivers were once capable of.
