Computers Configurat...upgrading 2 Vaio laptopsYour VGNT series must use the same type of HDD, which is the same that is used in ipods and such. It's a 1.8" drive. Kinda hard to find, but not impossible. A tad expensive too. Your PCGR505 uses a standard 2.5" HDD, which is inexpensive and easy to find. You can use any capacity of drive. Check with a local computer parts store and they can probably assist. Getting inside the PCGR505 may be a tad tricky, if I remember correctly.
DVDBDP-S1 10/25/06And based on my readings, there will be a severe shortage of optic assemblies for blu-ray players and HD-DVD players, as PS3 and X360 production is just starting to ramp. No pre-order? No BDPS1 until March/April.
    Playstation 2 player......Sounds like a Wii-tard.
Television Troublesh...Sony's flat TVs malfunction due to software glitchAll registered customers will be given the option to receive the update and do it manually... or an authorized service centre can perform the upgrade. Can't wait to see the threads on this one... let 'er rip!
Television Troublesh...sony xbr-400The D board may have to be replaced. For future reference, if someone has a dead XBR400, have the 875967030 IC's checked.
Television Troublesh...KV40XBR700S PreservationHere's another hint for you. Keep the TV still. Do not change the angle that it is facing. Since it's so heavy, this may not be a problem. The reason I say this is that the picture's purity is aligned by magnets. By changing the angle that the set is facing will change the way these magnets influence the purity of the image. If you alter the direction the set is facing, it may be hard to achieve the perfect picture that you are used to. Next time on believe it or not...
Television Misc and ...s-video questionThe biggest benefit is that the black and white signal is seperated from the colour signal (y/c) with s-video. In a composite (RCA) connection, the entire video signal is sent as one. The composite signal then has to pass thru the comb filter to seperate the colour and black and white signals from eachother, which usually will result in dot crawl and bleeding colours. Generally, both are capable of the same resolution, which isn't necessarily relevant in analog video signals. At times, it is beneficial to use composite over s-video, as the circuitry in a television may do a better job of ..
Computers Troublesho...PCG-V505AX = Pure GarbageHard drives do fail. Backup your data regularily. This has nothing to do with the computer itself. Same with the optical drive. Most likely a Toshiba drive in there anyway. Since the computer was free (and I don't think that model was ever supposed to be for sale at retail... I think), I would say that 10 hours a day for a few years is pretty good for a notebook computer. Perhaps a desktop would be more suitable for your needs. Not that I'm defending VAIO's or anything, but it seems like you are complaining about a wheel because it's round... If you know what I'm getting ..
DVDDVPNS3100ES vs. DVPNS9100ESHere's a better link here [ This message was edited by: thefaulkner on 2005-12-22 00:13 ] [ This message was edited by: thefaulkner on 2005-12-22 00:15 ]
DVDDVPNS3100ES vs. DVPNS9100ESThanks for providing the link... guess I coulda done that. That black thing on the first picture is... something... perhaps a heatsink? Perhaps shielding the DSD chip? I didn't lift it off, but it looks like it's covering a portion of the digital board. I dunno It's purpose. The two torodial transformers can be seen in the third picture, they are under the power board. I've been listening to it today and I'm loving it. I better enjoy it, cause I gotta give it to my Mom this weekend. It's a replacement for her DVPS7700 and I have to choose between this 9100 and my Denon ..
DVDDVPNS3100ES vs. DVPNS9100ESGot it!!!! Nice unit... I gotta quit looking at it and listen to it more. I quickly uploaded some photos of it's guts to: members.shaw.ca/thefaulkner It's construction has exceeded my expectations. Everything inside is Sony engineered and built. I snapped a photo of the top cover... it weighs as much as most other DVD players do.
DVDDVPNS3100ES vs. DVPNS9100ESMy DVPNS9100ES should be arriving on Monday. Darn couriers... should've been here this past week. First thing I'm gonna do when I get my hand on it is crack it open and see what's inside. I haven't been able to find much for data about the guts of this thing. I'll post some pics and info when I can.
Television Troublesh...Major Problem With KP51WS510Most likely: STK392-560 - Convergence IC Would need to be replaced.
Television Troublesh...Major Problem With KP51WS510If the set cannot be re-converged via the service menu (should leave that to a certified tech), then you may have a faulty convergence IC. Shouldn't be anything too terribly major.
Maybe these shoes have a memory stick slot or something...
Amp/Receiver/Speaker...Help me keep cats off the receiverTo keep my cat off my stuff, I planted some duct tape, sticky side up on top of my gear. He hasn't gone near since.
Camera Troubleshooti...DCR-IP1 -> Imac G5Unfortunately, the MicroMV cameras do not interface with a Mac. The connection is ieee1394, but the video format is not DV, and is required to be used with Sony's Movieshaker software, which is (to my knowledge) not available for Mac.
Sony and Industry Re...SONY--2ND WORST TECH PRODUCT--2005I read that too... I really don't get it, though. They are comparing a 2 year old product to current models and saying that the ipod shuffle is a better player. Of course the shuffle is a better player, it came out more than a year after the NWS23. In fact, the NWS23 has been discontinued and not available for more than a year. Ah well... I guess they had to have something from Sony on the list.
DVDDVP-S550DYour 550 is probably not going to read any DVD-R/CD-R media. It may read some RW media. It wasn't until the "NS" players that Writeable formats were formally supported.
Camera Troubleshooti...trv38 lines across the tapeProbably needs an alignment and/or cleaning.
