MD/CD/SACDBlue ray player cd playback? On 2010-08-26 11:27, frahengeo wrote: Check out this Blu-ray player: http://www.oppodigital.com/blu-ray-bdp-83se/ I have the BDP-83 standard unit and it is excellent for BD playback. The SE version adds the supposedly improved DACs for 2-channel playback. I don't own the SE version, but have read good things about it. [ This message was edited by: frahengeo on 2010-08-26 11:28 ] [ This message was edited by: frahengeo on 2010-08-26 11:29 ] Yep. I have a Oppo BD-83 SE, and the analog out is very good indeed. Not quite as ..
MD/CD/SACDBlue ray player cd playback?Well, I have a Pioneer Elite BD-95, and it's pretty good sounding on CD. Now, compared to a Cambridge Audio 840C, it falls a bit short. However, the Elite 95 is very listenable on CD.
MD/CD/SACDHas Sony ever topped the XA7es? On 2010-07-11 12:53, mhedges wrote: How many people around here are still using a XA7ES? I may have a lead on one for a decent price and am wondering if it would be better for redbook CD than my Denon 3930CI universal player. Also has anyone compared the XA7ES to the XA5400ES for RB CD? Mark Interesting question. My guess is that the Denon may sound marginally better than the XA-7ES. The progression with DAC's and filtering really has advanced the art of CD playback. For example, the Oppo BD-83 SE sounds MUCH better than it should for it's ..
MD/CD/SACDSony SCD-1 or 777ES?Well, there is more to the player than the DAC. If just the DAC was at issue, then the Oppo BD-83SE would already win. The ESS Sabre DAC in the Oppo is better as a DAC than the Sony XA5400. The sound is the result of the entire unit as a whole. The SCD-1 and 777 have a much better transport, dampining, and power supply.
MD/CD/SACDSony SCD-1 or 777ES?Looking for some feedback here: I'm looking to upgrade CD and two channel SACD. I read that the SCD-1 and 777 are basically the sam player (less balanced out and cosmetics). Is that accurate? I'm not sure which way to proceed. There are 777ES on A-Gon with Kern mods, along with SCD-1 units. I use an Oppo BD-83SE for movies and surrond, which is very nice. The ESS DAC's are set up such that jitter is almost nil. The Modwright crowd has a mod for the Oppo as well. So, not sure which way to go here. Looking for som ..
Amp/Receiver/Speaker...The AC Plug Thread / The Benefits of Upgrading to Thank you, Maxx! I've been at this audio thing for a long time, but I always get new insight from your informative posts.
Amp/Receiver/Speaker...The AC Plug Thread / The Benefits of Upgrading to Anybody ever actually put an o-scope on typical household power? I have, and it's not pretty. There is a lot extra junk on a typical household line. While I can see some benifits of a properly shielded cord that can handle sufficent current, can't see assigning properties to it that do not conform to engineering basics (I'm talking IEEE type specs). My personal experience is that power conditioners and isolation devices such as Jensen ISO transformenrs have FAR MORE effects regarding clean sound.

Amp/Receiver/Speaker...Upgraded Speakers-Forced Amp upgradeMaxx, What I meant about the various inputs was in reference to the Benchmark only, not any other setup :-) So, you think the Benchmark is using I2S via the clock recoivery system? How much is that different from H.A.T.S and PQLS? [ This message was edited by: redwing-nine on 2010-04-25 19:24 ]
Amp/Receiver/Speaker...Upgraded Speakers-Forced Amp upgradeMaxx, According to the website at benchmark, I2S won't buy you any less jitter than any other input:
Jitter-Immune UltraLock™
Digital interconnect cables, electro-magnetic interference, and many other variables introduce jitter into the digital audio. Jitter presents a major problem to most D-to-A converters. Jitter is a type of clock error that, if not properly addressed, can cause the D-to-A to misfire. The result of these misfires is a non-musical, digital distortion. Many modern (and expensive) converters suffer from severe jitter-induced disto ..

There was a blurb which hinted that USB breaks out the signal as I2S.

Amp/Receiver/Speaker...Upgraded Speakers-Forced Amp upgradeSo Maxx, Lets talk jitter and time based errors for a bit. I was under the impression that Auto Rate Control (H.A.T.S. or PLQS) got rid of most of the problems with jitter and time based errors. Is there some data on this one could review?

Amp/Receiver/Speaker...Upgraded Speakers-Forced Amp upgradeWell, currently I have a Pioneer Elite DV79 AVi that is connected via i-link with H.A.T.S, which provides stunning clarity. Also have a Oppo 83 SE which is a very good unit. I've been looking into a Benchmark DAC, as the word on the street is that is a top shelf performer.
